11:6

 Salaam all


11:6

وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ فِي ٱلأَرْضِ إِلاَّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا وَيَعْلَمُ مُسْتَقَرَّهَا وَمُسْتَوْدَعَهَا كُلٌّ فِي كِتَابٍ مُّبِينٍ

 

wamā min dābbatin fī l-ari illā ʿalā l-lahi riz`quhā wayaʿlamu mus`taqarrahā wamus`tawdaʿahā kullun fī kitābin mubīnin

 

The Aya says:

And there is not a creature that moves on/ in the land if not that upon Allah its provision.  And He knows its place of settlement and place/ time of rest.  Each is in a clear book.

 

My personal statement”

The Aya tells us that Allah provides all of us.  Of course Allah does through mechanisms and so this should not be taken for people to be lazy and hanging around.  Allah will provide us through our efforts but he assures us that He will provide.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

wamā: and not/ and there is not

min: of/ from

dābbatin: a creature that moves/ walks

Note: the root is D-B-B and it means when the entity moves in or on the earth lightly or according to it’s appropriate pace.  DABBATIN is a creature that moves.

Fī: on/ in

l-ari: the earth/ the land

Note: ALARDI is derived from the root Hamza-R-Dhad and it means earth or land.  ALARDI is the earth/ the land.

 

Illā: if not/ except

ʿalā: upon

l-lahi: Allah

riz`quhā: Her provision/ its provision

Note:  the root is  R-Z-Qaf and it means provision and conceptually, it covers any form of providing especially for needs.  RIZQU means provision of.  HA means her or it.

wayaʿlamu: and He knows

Note: WA in here is for a new sentence that continues the theme. YaAALAMU is derived from the root Ain-L-M and it means knowing/knowledge or knowledge of facts. YaAALAMU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of knowing the object (Mustaqarraha= her living space) for fact is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah)

mus`taqarrahā: its living space/ its settlement

Note: the root is Qaf-R-R and it means in one concrete form, the food or drink that remains in the pot after it was utilized. Then in a conceptual manner, it takes the meaning of settling and being stable as well as cooling, since it will cool down with time, but also because coolness is a sign of something settled. MUSTAQARRA means place or time or place and time of reaching settlement of.  HA means her and goes back to DABBA= anything that walks the earth.

wamus`tawdaʿahā: and its resting place

Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture.  WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better.  MUSTAWDaAAa is derived from the root W-D-Ain and it means in concrete the small shells that rest at the bottom of the sea.  Conceptually it points to calmness and resting and serenity.  MUSTAWDaAAa is the place of calm and rest of. HA means her and points to the DABBA again.  In this context the MUSTAWDaAAa points to the place of calmness and rest which could be point to burial and death but other things that apply as well.

Kullun: each

Note: KULLUN is derived from the root K-L-L and it means the parts put together. This is the concrete and it means all or every or each. It can also be extended conceptually to mean the parts surrounding an entity. KULLUN means each.

 

Fī: in/ on

Kitābin: a book/ a document/ a register

Note: the root K-T-B and it means putting things together as in grouping the herd together or closing the lips or writing (the most common use), because in writing, one puts the letters and the ideas together. KITABIN means, the process of writing or the book or anything related to it from the ideas to the ink and paper to the place where all is put together.  In short a book or a document or a register

 

Mubīnin: making clear/ clear/ clarifying

Note: the root is B-Y-N and it means in concrete between. The action of the verb is betweening. This betweening can mean clarifying because one can know better the difference between two things. It also can mean distancing because the betweening makes things become apart. MUBEEN is the one that makes between in a conceptual sense.  In this context, KITABIN MUBEEN carries the meaning of the book is clear or makes things clear.

11:5

أَلا إِنَّهُمْ يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ لِيَسْتَخْفُواْ مِنْهُ أَلا حِينَ يَسْتَغْشُونَ ثِيَابَهُمْ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

 

alā innahum yathnūna udūrahum liyastakhfū min`hu alā īna yastaghshūna thiyābahum yaʿlamu mā yusirrūna wamā yuʿ`linūna innahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-udūri

 

The Aya says:

Indeed then bend their chests to hide from Him (Allah). Indeed, when they put on their clothes, He knows what they hold private and what they make public.  He ideed is knowing of what is inside.

 

My personal note:

The Aya is a message that there is no hiding from Allah, not matter what we do and that we need to be aware of what is inside us since Allah knows it very well.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

alā innahum: indeed they

yathnūna: fold/ bend

Note: the root is TH-N-Y and it means to fold something. This is then used to make the one two through folding and other meanings.  YATHNOON is an action that is happening or will be happening.  It means the action of bending or folding is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).

udūrahum: their chests

Note: the root is Sad-D-R and it means chest of the person. It also takes the conceptual additional meanings of a container of secrets as well as the place where things emanate from, as in the inner self. SUDURA means the chest of .  HUM means them.

 

Liyastakhfū: in order to hide

Note: LI means to or for or in order to.  YASTAKHFOO is derived from the root KH-F-Y and it means not apparent and also, rarely, it can mean the opposite which is apparent. One would decide which meaning according to the sentence and context. YASTAKHFOO is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of seeking to make the object (the subject itself or it’s actions) not apparent or hidden, is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).

min`hu: Him (Allah)

alā: indeed

īna: when

yastaghshūna: they cover

Note: the root is GHAIN-SH-Y or GHAIN-SH-W and it means in one concrete meaning GHISHA’, the thin cover or membrane over something. YASTAGHSHOON is an action that is happening or will be happening.  It means the action of covering oneself is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural) with the object (Thiyabahum= their clothes).

Thiyābahum: their clothes

Note: the root is TH-W-B and it means to come and return (to fill and refill of goodness). Concrete words are MATHAB which is the well or pool that fills and refills with water and where people go and return for watering. Another concrete word is THAWB and it means dress because we fill it and refill it with our bodies.  THIYABA means clothing of.  HIM means them.

yaʿlamu: He knows/ He knows for fact

Note: YaAALAMU is derived from the root Ain-L-M and it means knowing/knowledge or knowledge of facts. YaAALAMU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of knowing the object (not mentioned) for fact is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular).

Mā: what

Yusirrūna: they keep private/ they keep hidden/ secret

Note: YUSIRROON is derived from the root S-R-R and it means the inside of someone or something. One of the concrete meanings is the umbilical cord because it goes to the inside. The word means then any inner feeling as in secret or happiness and is understood according to the context.  YUSIRROON is an action that is being completed or will be completed.  It means: the action of keeping internal or secret of the object (MA= what) is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural)

 

Wamā: and what

yuʿ`linūna: they make public/ they announce

Note: the root is AIN-L-N and it means announcing or making known. YuAALINOON is an action that is happening or will be happening.  It means that the action of making the object (MA=what) public is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural)

Innahu: He indeed

ʿalīmun: knowing/ knowledgeable

Note: the root is Ain-L-M and it means knowing/knowledge or knowledge of facts. ALEEMUN means very knowing or very aware.

 

 

Bidhāti: in that of

Note: BI signifies an attachment or close linkage between what is before and what is after it.  In a Verbal sentence it can mean attachment to the action or to the subject as it does the action.  This attachment can then signify many things according to the verb and to the sentence and so on.  In this sentence it signifies more of an object of the action.  DHATI means one of

 

l-udūri: chests/ insides

Note: the root is Sad-D-R and it means chest of the person. It also takes the conceptual additional meanings of a container of secrets as well as the place where things emanate from, as in the inner self.ALSSUDUR means the chests or inner selves.

11:4

إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

ilā l-lahi marjiʿukum wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin qadīrun

 

The Aya says:

To Allah is your return and He is upon everything, capable

 

My personal note:

In the previous Aya I translated TAWBA as return and in this I translated MARJIAA as return .  This leads me to explain the difference between the two in a sense.  TAWBA would apply as a return to being spiritual linked and to doing it voluntarily.  Marjiaa is to being actually literally returning and can be voluntary or not voluntary and so on.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

ilā: to/ Towards

l-lahi: Allah

marjiʿukum: Your return

marjiAAukum: your return

Note: the root is R-J-Ain and it means returning. MARJiAAuKUM is place and time of the return or just the return at a designated place or time.

 

Wahuwa: And He/ While He

ʿalā: upon

Kulli: every

Note: KULLI is derived from the root K-L-L and it means the parts put together. This is the concrete and it means all or every or each. It can also be extended conceptually to mean the parts surrounding an entity. KULLI means every, or each.

 Shayin: thing

Note: the root is SH-Y-Hamza and it means entity for noun and to entity for the action. This means making a non entity become an entity, which also means making what was impossible possible, or what was non existent, existent or what was un-allowed allowed, and so forth.  SHAYIN means a thing or an entity.

 

Qadīrun:  capable/ in control

Note: the root is Qaf-D-R and it means in concrete cooking the meat in the pot. Conceptually it takes the meaning of measuring, putting limits on an entity and capability to cover the exact need and task.  QADIRUN means in control or able to impose limits

11:3

 وَأَنِ ٱسْتَغْفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوۤاْ إِلَيْهِ يُمَتِّعْكُمْ مَّتَاعاً حَسَناً إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَيُؤْتِ كُلَّ ذِي فَضْلٍ فَضْلَهُ وَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَإِنِّيۤ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ كَبِيرٍ

 

wa-ani is`taghfirū rabbakum thumma tūbū ilayhi yumattiʿ`kum matāʿan asanan ilā ajalin musamman wayu`ti kulla dhī falin falahu wa-in tawallaw fa-innī akhāfu ʿalaykum ʿadhāba yawmin kabīrin

 

The Aya says:

And that you (plural) seek forgiveness/ protection from your nurturing Lord then return to him, He will fulfill your needs beautifully until an alloted term and bring to each deserving of bounty his due. And if you turn away then I fear for you the suffering of a big day.

 

My personal note:

I translated the word Istaghfiroo as protection in addition to forgiveness. It is usually translated as forgiveness but the root is based on protection.  So when we ask forgiveness we are asking protection from the harm of the sin.  I also translated TOOBOO as return when it is often translated as repentance and that is also because repentance is a return to Allah.  The Aya seems to suggest that seeking protection as a start and then return to Allah as a followup.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

wa-ani: and that

is`taghfirū: you (plural) ask forgiveness/ ask protective cover

Note: the root is GH-F-R or Ghain-F-R and it means covering for protection. The concrete word is the helmet of the fighter. In the Qur’an the usual context is protection from the consequences of poor actions or sins. ISTAGHFIROO is an order or a request addressed to a group.  It means ask or seek protective cover and that is  part of forgiveness (asking protection from the harm of the sin).

rabbakum: your Lord/ your nurturing Lord

Note: the root is R-B-B and it means nurturing and Lordship as two components of the meaning that can be present together or one at a time according to the context of the sentence.   RABBA is nurturing Lord of.  KUM means plural you.

 

Thumma: then

Tūbū: repent/ return

Note: the root is  T-W-B and it means repentance or the ultimate return to GOD. The concrete word that is related is TABOOT and it means coffin which is what takes us to our ultimate return to GOD or repentance. TOOBOO is an order or a request addressed to a group.  It means repent or return.

Ilayhi: to Him/ towards Him

yumattiʿ`kum: He helps you (plural) achieve

Note: the root is M-T-Ain and it means when the wine becomes very red or when the rope becomes tight. This is the concrete and the concept gives the meaning of something or someone reaching where it needs to reach within the limits of time, space, etc. YUMATTiAAaKUM is an action that is being completed or will be completed.  It means: the action of making the object (KUM=plural you) fulfil their needs is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah)

 

matāʿan: Goals/ achievments/ fulfilling needs

Note: root M-T-Ain and it means when the wine becomes very red or when the rope becomes tight. This is the concrete and the concept gives the meaning of something or someone reaching where it needs to reach within the limits of time, space, etc. MATTaAAaN is the goal or need or fulfillment that needs to be achieved.

 

asanan: Good. Beautiful/ beautifully

Note: the root is Ha-S-N and it means beauty and goodness in all the aspects of beauty and goodness. HASANAN is good or beautiful or done well.

 

Ilā: to/ till/ towards

Ajalin: time limit/ time span

Note: the root is Hamza-J-L and it means end of an entity. This entity can be time or place or anything that is determined by the sentence. AJALUN means end of time or time span of an entity. 

 

Musamman: named/ designated

Note: the root is S-M-W and it means rising. This word is used to mean many things that are related to that meaning. One of the meanings is name because when a person’s name is called, he or she would rise and respond.  MUSAMMAN means named already or raised or designated.

wayu`ti: and He brings/ including He brings/provides

Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture.  WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better.  Yu’TI is derived from the root Hamza-T-Y and it means coming with determination. The concrete word is for the water that flows in a place where it did not rain, therefore suggesting that the water came from somewhere else. YU’TI is an is an action that is being completed or will be completed.  It means the action of making an object (Fadlah= bounty/ blessing) come to another object (KULLA thee Fadlin= each with blessinig) is happening or will be happening by the subject (Third person singular)

 

Kulla: each/ every

Note: KULLA is derived from the root K-L-L and it means the parts put together. This is the concrete and it means all or every or each. It can also be extended conceptually to mean the parts surrounding an entity. KULLA means every, or each.

 

Dhī: person of/ one of/ person deserving of

falin: bounty/ blessing

Note: FADLIN is derived from the root F-Dhad-L and it means overflowing of good or being able to fulfill all your needs from an entity and then still have more of it spared. It can also mean abundance due to the same reason. FADHIN means the abundance of.

 

falahu: his blessing/ his bounty/ his due of bounty or blessing

Note: FADLAHU is derived from the root F-Dhad-L and it means overflowing of good or being able to fulfill all your needs from an entity and then still have more of it spared. It can also mean abundance due to the same reason. FADHLI means the abundance of. HU means him and points to Allah.

 

wa-in: And if/ while if

tawallaw: you (plural) turn away/ ignore/ reject

Note: the root is W-L-Y and it means direction or following direction with some guarantee. It comes close to guardian and protégé relationship where the protégé follows the guardians leadership and the leader protects them.  TAWALLAW is an action that is being completed or will be completed.  It means: the action of following own direction is happening or will be happening by the subject (second person plural).  In this context it points to following a direction other than the path of Allah.

fa-innī: Then I

akhāfu: fear/ worry

Note: the root is KH-W-F and it means fear. AKHAFU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of fearing is happeneing or will be happening by the subject (first person singular).

 

ʿalaykum: on you (plural)/ about you

ʿadhāba: suffering of/ punishment of

Note: AAaTHAB is derived from the root Ain-TH-B and it means an easy to swallow food or drink. AAaTHABA is what makes one not take an easy to swallow food or drink. That is suffering of or punishment of.

 

Yawmin: day/ A day

Note: It is derived from the root Y-W-M and it means day or a full time cycle. YAWM means a day or a time cycle.

 Kabīrin: big

Note: the root is K-B-R and it means big in quality or quantity or any other feature that denotes bigness.  KABIR means big
