3:43

Salaam all,

This is 3:43
يَا مَرْيَمُ اقْنُتِي لِرَبِّكِ وَاسْجُدِي وَارْكَعِي مَعَ الرَّاكِعِينَ
Ya maryamu oqnutee lirabbiki waosjudee wairkaAAee maAAa alrrakiAAeena

The Aya says:
O Mary, make yourself dedicated to your nurturing Lord and prostrate and bow with the ones that bow.

My personal note:
The Aya mentions two actions that are included in the prayer, Sujood= prostration and Rukoo= bowing. Both words have a physical, mental, psychological and spiritual aspects to their meanings and all those aspects are binding. This is the range of the meaning of those words and since there is no indication in the sentence or the Qur'an to limit the meaning to one or another aspect, then the wide range of the meaning applies and is binding.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Ya: O (this is a calling)
Maryamu: Mary/ Miriam
Oqnutee: make yourself dedicated
Note: the root is Qaf-N-T and it means dedicating. The meaning carries the range of being silent to in front of another, acceptance of the lordship of the one above him/her and standing as well as a sign of respect and dedication. They all carry the general concept of Dedication. OQNUTEE is an order addressing a singular feminine. It means make yourself dedicated.
Lirabbiki: To your nurturing Lord
Note: LI means to. RABBIKI is derived from the root R-B-B and it means lordship and nurturing at the same time. It gives authority and nurture at the same time. RABBI means: nurturing Lord of. KI means a singular you (feminine).
Waosjudee: and prostrate yourself (physically and spiritually)
Note: WA means and. OSJUDEE is derived from the root S-J-D and in concrete it means a tree that is tilting downward due to a heavy load of fruits. It therefore is used to mean tilting downward of the face or the body including prostration. In abstract, it means showing signs of submission to a higher power, basically showing that one is giving in to the higher power. The range of meaning includes the abstract and the concrete together and one needs to understand it as both unless there is a strong reason in the sentence or elsewhere in the Qur’an to make one meaning inappropriate or impossible.
wairkaAAee: And bow
Note: WA means And. IRKaAAee is derived from the root R-K-Ain and it means to bend the back or to bow This meaning extends to the concrete and the abstract and both are correct and are binding unless their is a reason to limit the meaning to one. IRKaAAee is an order addressing a singular feminine to bow (physically and mentally and psychologically)
maAAa: with
alrrakiAAeena: the ones that bow
Note: ALRRAKiAAeeNA is derived from the root R-K-Ain and it means to bend the back or to bow. ALRRAKiAAeeNA are the ones that bow

Take care all and have a great day

وَإِذْ قَالَتِ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ يَا مَرْيَمُ إِنَّ اللّهَ اصْطَفَاكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَاصْطَفَاكِ عَلَى نِسَاء الْعَالَمِينَ
Waith qalati almalaikatu ya maryamu inna Allaha istafaki watahharaki waistafaki AAala nisai alAAalameena

The Aya says:
And as the angels said: O Mary, verily Allah made you chosen and made you cleansed and He made you chosen over (the) women of the world.

My personal note:
The word ISTAFAKI has the meaning of being made chosen or purified by the subject for the purpose or purposes of the subject. The purpose or purposes may or may not be clear. This word was used in the above Aya were God made Miriam chosen. This meant that Mary had a purpose or a task that she needed to fulfill in the service of God and that God chose her for it. It gave Mary (peace on her) great honor and great responsibility. The same word (istafa) was used earlier in Aya 3:33 where God chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of Imran. All of them had great honor and great responsibility in the service of God.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Waith: And as
Qalati: they said
Note: the root is Qaf-W-L and it means saying or communicating. QALAT is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the saying happened by the subject (third person plural feminine pointing to the angels coming next). It means they said.

The object is KI which is a singular you pointing to Mary.
AAala: on/ above/ over
Nisai: women of
Note: Note: the word means their women. It has two potential roots that may be related to it. The first N-S-Y and it is the one used for women. This same root is used for the sciatic nerve as a concrete word and for forgetting. The relation between the different meanings is only in an indirect manner. Another root is N-S-Hamza and it means putting things behind in time or space of delaying things. Concrete words are the women that have a delay in the menses because of possibility of pregnancy. He (Zachariah) said: My nurturing Lord, How will belong to me a child/youth while old age (has) reached me and my wife (is) barren?! He responded: That (is) how Allah does what He wills/ entities.

My personal note:
As if Zachariah was asking for a child and not expecting that the child will come. So, he was surprised when the message came to him that he will have the child. فَنَادَتْهُ الْمَلآئِكَةُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي فِي الْمِحْرَابِ أَنَّ اللّهَ يُبَشِّرُكَ بِيَحْيَـى مُصَدِّقًا بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنَ اللّهِ وَسَيِّدًا وَحَصُورًا وَنَبِيًّا مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Fanadathu almalaikatu wahuwa qaimun yusallee fee almihrabi anna Allaha yubashshiruka biyahya musaddiqan bikalimatin mina Allahi wasayyidan wahasooran wanabiyyan mina alssaliheena

The Aya says:
So, the angels called him while standing, praying in the place of prayer, that Allah is bringing you good news of Yahya (John), making true by statement from Allah and a master, and a limiter (of sin) and a prophet, among the ones of benefit/ the righteous.

My personal note:
The statement Musaddiqan bikalimatin min Allah was translated by me as making true by statement from Allah. This passage can carry many meanings that are not mutually exclusive. They include:

1- Declaring true words of Allah.
2- Carrying the words of Allah with truth and by truth.
3- Declaring true Jesus and his message. This is because Jesus was mentioned in the Qur’an as a statement or word from God. However, Muslims understand this statement that Jesus was created by a word from God, and not that Jesus was the word himself. That word was BE and he became being.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Fanadathu: So, they called him
Note: FA means so or therefore or then. NADATHU is derived from the root N-D-Y and it means in concrete dew or water touching a surface. It is also used for voice arriving to an entity. It means: the action of making good news arrive to the object KA which means singular you happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to God).
Biyahya: with Yahya/ with John/ of John
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. The Aya says:
Then Zachariah called upon his nurturing Lord. He said: My Nurturing Lord, give me from Your generosity, good offspring/seed. Verily, You (are) all listening to the calling.

My personal note:
This Aya is interesting because the previous Aya reminded Zachariah that God provides whomever He wills. It also reminded Zachariah that God can provide even when it seemed impossible. It was then that he realized that he can call upon and ask his Lord for seed, which was the Arabic word that was used for children.

The Aya says:
So her nurturing Lord accepted her with beautiful reception, and made her planted good planting, and He made Zachariah take care of her. Whenever Zachariah entered the most important place (of hers), he found provisions. He said: “O Mary how does this belong to you?!” She responded: “It is from Allah. Verily, Allah provides whomever He wills without measure.”

My personal note:
The good planting is a term that covers the issues of growing and raising a person and taking care of them which is similar to the growing and taking care of the plant.

AlMihrab is a word that I translated as the most important place. This meaning can cover the best part of the house, the most private and also the place of worship.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Fataqabbalaha: So, He accepted her
Note: FA means so or therefore or then. TAQABBALAHA is derived from the root Qaf-B-L and it means front. This is then carried in time or space or any plain of thought. It is used to mean acceptance and reception since we receive and accept using our fronts. TAQABBALA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of fronting was made to happen by the subject (third person singular pointing to God) to the object HA which means her.
