Salaam all,

This is 4:173
فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ وَيَزيدُهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِ وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ اسْتَنكَفُواْ وَاسْتَكْبَرُواْ فَيُعَذِّبُهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلُيمًا وَلاَ يَجِدُونَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلاَ نَصِيرًا
Faamma allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati fayuwaffeehim ojoorahum wayazeeduhum min fadlihi waamma allatheena istankafoo waistakbaroo fayuAAaththibuhum AAathaban aleeman wala yajidoona lahum min dooni Allahi waliyyan wala naseeran

The Aya says:
So, as for those who made themselves safe (in Allah and His message) including doing righteous deeds, then He will make them meet their due rewards, and increase them from His bounty. And as for those who dismissed and sought arrogance then He will make them suffer painful suffering and they will not find for themselves, short of Allah, a guardian nor a supporter.

My personal note:
It is important to point out that the word ISTAKBAR means more seeking arrogance. This is to point out that although they sought it, they cannot reach it because God is always greater. What they reach is a level that makes them feel falsely and emptily proud.

The Aya points out towards the end “And they will not find, short of Allah, a guardian nor a supporter”. The only guardian or support for humans is God. Even when we sin great sins, He is always ready to take us as we repent and accept him as our sole Guardian and supporter.


Translation of the transliterated words:

Faamma: so as for
Allatheena: those who
Amanoo: they made themselves safe
Note: the root Hamza-M-N and it means safety. Conceptually, it can also be extended to trust as well, because we feel safe in the entity we trust. AMANOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of making oneself safe is happened by the subject (third person plural).
waAAamiloo: and did/ including did
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. AAaMILOO is derived from the root Ain-M-L and it means doing or work. AAaMILOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of doing or making happened by the subject (third person plural).

Alssalihati: the righteous deeds/ good deeds/ deeds of benefit
Note: ALSSALIHATI is derived from the root Sad-L-Ha and it means becoming helpful or useful in a good direction. This means mainly: becoming one of benefit as in benefiting oneself and others. Included in this meaning is becoming fixed after having been broken. ALSSALIHATI then here are the deeds of goodness/ benefit and that would be the definition of the righteous.

Fayuwaffeehim: The He will make them meet their dues
Note: FA means therefore or so or then. YUWAFFEEHIM is derived from the root W-F-Y and it means meeting dues. This then takes different meanings according to the plane of thought of the sentence. One meaning could be death since it is a meeting of dues, or just a taking of someone or something depending on the situation, or other forms of meeting dues. YUWAFFEE is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making the object (third person plural) receive their dues is being made to happen or will be made to happen by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah)

Ojoorahum: their rewards/ compensations
Note: the root is Hamza-J-R and it means compensation for work done. OJOORA means compensation of work or just compensation or reward of. HUM means them.
Wayazeeduhum: and He will increase them/ add for them
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. YAZEEDUHUM is derived from the root Z-W-D or Z-Y-D and it means the provision of the road or the food that one packs for travel. It has also the conceptual meaning of what is above the need, because one packs a little extra for the road. YAZEEDUHUM is an action that is being completed or will be completed and it means: the action of making the object (HUM =them) increase is happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah).
Min: from
Fadlihi: His bounty/ abundance/ generous giving
Note: the root is F-Dhad-L and it means overflowing of good or being able to fulfill all your needs from an entity and then still have more of it spared. It can also mean abundance due to the same reason. FADLI means: overflowing of good of or provision of more goodness than is required to cover the needs so that there will remain more of it left. HI means him and it is pointing to God.
Waamma: and as for/ while as for
Allatheena; those who
Istankafoo: dismissed/ wiped away
Note: the root is N-K-F and it means in concrete when a person wipes away the tears from his or her cheeks. Conceptually, it can be used in many ways including stopping something or being embarrassed by something and so on and so forth. ISTANKAFOO is an action that is completed. It mean: the action of seeking to wipe out being embarrassed or seeking denial or dismissing of the object (undeclared but points to being a slave/worshipper of Allah) happened by the subject (third person plural)

Waistakbaroo: and sought to be arrogant/ bigger/ including seeking to be arrogant
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. ISTAKBAROO is derived from the root K-B-R and it means big in quality or quantity or any other feature that denotes bigness. ISTAKBAROO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of seeking to make one-self bigger happened (third person plural). Here, the bigger is in relation to being bigger than making one-self slave to Allah and that is the definition of arrogance.

fayuAAaththibuhum: then He will make them suffer
Note: FA means then or therefore or so. YUAAaTHTHIBUHUM is derived from the root Ain-TH-B and it means an easy to swallow food or drink. AAaTHAB is what makes one not take an easy to swallow food or drink. That is suffering. YUAAaTHTHIBUHUM is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making the object (HUM=them) suffer is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular).
AAathaban: suffering
Note: the root is Ain-TH-B and it means an easy to swallow food or drink. AAaTHAB is what makes one not take an easy to swallow food or drink. That is suffering.
Aleeman: painful
Note: the root is Hamza-L-M and it means pain. ALEEMAN means painful.
Wala: and not/ while not
Yajidoona: they find/ they will find
Note: the root is W-J-D and it means in one concrete meaning the water that has accumulated in the desert. This is then used to mean a find that is really important. YAJIDOONA is an action that is derived from the root that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of finding is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).
Lahum: for them/ to them
Min: from
Dooni: short of/ below of
Note: The root is D-W-N and it means short of someone or something. It can also mean lower than at times depending on the plane of thought of the sentence. DOONI means short of or below of.
Allahi: Allah
Waliyyan: guardian
Note: the root is W-L-Y and it mea
ns direction or following direction with some guarantee. It comes close to guardianship. WALIYYAN is either the one who is a guardian or the one who receives guardianship of another or both. In this context, it takes the meaning of guardian, because God is always a guardian and not a receiver of guardianship of others.
Wala: and not/ nor
Naseeran: supporter
Note: the root N-Sad-R and it means aid or help at a time of need. NASEERA means: supporter or helper at the time of need.
