قَالُواْ يَـٰٓأَبَانَا مَا لَكَ لَا تَأۡمَ۬نَّا عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَنَٰصِحُونَ

Qaloo ya abana malaka la ta’manna  ‘alaa Yoosufa wainna lahu lanasihoon

The Aya says:

They said: “O our father why don’t you entrust us with Joseph? while we are to him well-intentioned”

My personal note:

Here the brothers are asking their father to trust them regarding taking care of Joseph.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

Qaloo: they said

Note: QALOO is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying in any way possible. QALOO is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of saying happened by the subject (third person plural). This, in turn means: they said or claimed. In this context it takes the meaning of they responded.

Ya: O

Abana: our father

Note: ABANA is derived from the root Hamza-B and it means father or parent. ABA means father of. NA means us or our.

 

Malaka: why you? What about you?

la ta’manna: do not trust us

Note: LA is for negation of the action that is coming next. Ta’manna is derived from the root N Hamza-M-N and it means safe or safety. Ta’MANNA is an action that is derived from the root and that is completed. It means: the action of making the subject (second person singular) become safe or trusting in the object (first person plural) is happening or will be happening.   Because it is preceded by the la for negation then it becomes: do not trust us.

 

 ‘alaa: upon/ on/ regarding/

Yoosufa: Joseph

Wainna: we

Lahu: to him

Lanasihoon: well-intentioned advisors/ sincere advisors

Note: LANASIHOON is derived from the root N-Sad- HA and it means in concrete when the land is all green and does not leave any space and other uses that make it conceptually used for soleness and purity without any blemishes of any sort. LANASIHOON are sincere advisors with emphasis or well- intentioned.
