Salaam all,
This is 3:33
إِنَّ اللّهَ اصْطَفَى آدَمَ وَنُوحًا وَآلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلَ عِمْرَانَ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ
Inna Allaha istafa adama wanoohan waala ibraheema waala AAimrana AAala alAAalameena
The Aya says:
Verily, Allah chose, Adam and Noah and people of Abraham and people of Imran over all creation.
My personal note:
The word Istafa takes the meaning of the subject making purified or chosen the object for the subject. So, the Aya means that those people were chosen and purified by God for Himself. This means that they were chosen to serve God and propagate his message as well as other aspects of why God would choose some of his creation specifically for His service.
The words AALI were translated as people of. They can be the family of the person and that is correct, but on a wider scale, it involves all the people of the person and that includes the people that used the person as the leader or followed his path and direction.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Inna: Verily
Allaha: Allah
Istafa: made purified for Himself/ chose for Himself
Note: the root is Sad-F-W and it means clear and non turbid. In concrete it is the water that goes through the siv, therefore becomes clear of impurities. In abstract, it means clarity, purity and choice, as well as meanings of that genre. ISTAFA is an action that is complete that is derived from the root. It means that the action of making the object purified or chosen was done by the subject for the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah). The object/s are coming up.
Adama: Adam
Wanoohan: And Noah
Waala: and people of
Note: WA means and. ALI is derived from the root is Hamza-W-L and it means ultimate as a concept and takes different shapes and specific meanings according to the situation. ALI means: people who ultimately resort to the word that comes next. I shortened it to people of. They could be family of or the people that consider him their ultimate source and order and so forth.
Ibraheema: Abraham
Waala: and people of
Note: WA means and. ALI is derived from the root is Hamza-W-L and it means ultimate as a concept and takes different shapes and specific meanings according to the situation. ALI means: people who ultimately resort to the word that comes next. I shortened it to people of. They could be family of or the people that consider him their ultimate source and order and so forth.
AAimrana: Imran
Note: the bible mentions that this is the family of Moses, while here, the Qur’an is pointing to the family of Mary mother of Jesus (peace be upon all). Indeed both families have shared names since Mary is the same name as Miriam sister of Moses.
AAala: over/ on/ above
alAAalameena: All creation/ All humanity
Note: the root is Ain-L-M and it means knowledge or knowing. ALAAaLAMEENA means the known or the knowns. Since, it is talking about God, who knows everything, then it is pointing to all creation as in everything everywhere and anywhere and so forth.
Salaam all and have a great day
Hussein
