This is 2:101
وَلَمَّآ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ عِندِ اللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ نَبَذَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ
Walamma jaahum rasoolun minAAindi Allahi musaddiqun lima maAAahum nabathafareequn mina allatheena ootoo alkitaba kitabaAllahi waraa thuhoorihim kaannahum layaAAlamoona
Note:
The AYA says “And when an envoy came to them from the GOD declaring true what is with them, a group of the ones that were given the book put away the book of GOD behind their backs, as if they do not know.
My personal note:
The Aya talks about some of the people that were given the book before the prophet and that is a designation given mostly to Christians and Jews. The Aya points out that the prophet came declaring true what the people of the book have. The AYA also points out that the people that cast away the book of GOD behind their backs become people without knowledge.
This continues the main point of the message of the Qur’an and that is knowledge is very important. It also points out that one needs to read the book in order to make sure that they actually gain the knowledge.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Walamma: And when
Jaahum: Came to them
Note: the root is J-Y-Hamza and it means to come. JAA is the third person past tense singular of the word. HUM means them
Rasoolun: An envoy/ a messenger
Note: the root word is R-S-L and it means to envoy someone or a group of people or animals. The concrete word is RASL and it means a group of people or animals that were sent by their owners. RASOOL is an envoy/messenger that is sent from the source and the source here is GOD.
minAAindi: From at
Allahi: The GOD
Musaddiqun: Declaring true
Note: the root word here is S-D-Qaf and it means to say the truth in word or deed. MUSADDIQUN is a person that declares and believes true something else.
Lima: To what
maAAahum: With them
nabatha: put away/cast away/set aside
Note: the root is N-B-TH and it means to caste away/put aside and so forth for the verb and the action of setting aside for the noun. The concrete word NABEETH and means Wine because the grope or date juice was put away to make the Wine. NABATHA is the third person singular or plural past tense of the verb.
Fareequn: A division/A group
Note: the root is F-R-Qaf and it means to separate/divide and so forth for the verb and the separation or division for the noun. FAREEQ is one of the products of the separation or division and it means a group/ A division.
Mina: Of/from
Allatheena: Those that
Ootoo: Were made to receive
Note: the root is Hamza-T-W and it means to come with determination. OOTOO is third person plural past tense of a verb that is derived from the root. It means that something was made to come to the person. In reality it means Were made to receive.
alkitaba: The book
Note: the root is K-T-B and it means to write. AL-KITAB is anything that is involved in the process of writing and most importantly the book.
Kitaba: Book of
Allahi: The GOD
Waraa: Behind
Note: the root is W-R-W and it means to be under/behind the skin. The concrete word is WARA and it means abscess. WARAA means behind or under the skin. Here it means behind.
thuhoorihim: Their backs
Note: the root is TH-H-R and it means back for the concrete word. THUHHORIHIM is the plural of back.
Kaannahum: As if they were/are
Note: the root is K-W-N and it is the verb to be in Arabic. KAANNA means as if. HUM means they
