قَالَ رَبِّ ٱلسِّجْنُ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِمَّا يَدْعُونَنِىٓ
إِلَيْهِ ۖ وَإِلَّا تَصْرِفْ عَنِّى كَيْدَهُنَّ أَصْبُ إِلَيْهِنَّ وَأَكُن
مِّنَ ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ
Qala rabbi assijnu ahabbu ilayya mimma yadAAoonani ilayhi wa-illa tasrif
AAannee kaydahunna asbu ilayhinna wa’akun mina aljahileen
The Aya says:
He (Joseph) said: “My nurturing Lord,
the prison is preferrable to me from what they are calling me to. And if you do not divert their scheming from
me then I will be tempted towards them and I become amongst the ignorant.
My personal note:
The Aya is a testimony to human vulnerability
towards sexual desire and Joseph is being authentic that his ability to resist
has limits.
Translation of the transliterated
words:
Qala: He said/ he responded
Note: QALA is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means
saying in any way possible. QALA is an action that is completed that is derived
from the root. It means the action of saying happened by the subject (third
person plural). This, in turn means: they said or claimed. In this context it
takes the meaning of they responded.
Rabbi: my nurturing lord
Note: RABBI
is derived from the root R-B-B and it means nurturing and Lordship as two components of
the meaning that can be present together or one at a time according to the
context of the sentence. RABBI is
nurturing Lord of mine/ my nurturing Lord
Assijnu: the jail/ the
prison/ the captivity
Note: the root is S-J-N and it means prison or captivity
or being held in a place you cannot get out of.
ASSIJN means the jail/ prison/ captivity.
Ahabbu: preferrable/ more loved
Note: AHABBU is derived from the root Ha-B-B
and it means in concrete seed. This word also means love. As if the seed is the
product of love or the love will end up in a seed. AHABBU means more
beloved and in this context means preferrable.

it means calling as in calling someone for help or otherwise. YADAAooNA is an
action that is being completed or will be completed in response to the
conditional. It means: the action of

pushing element.

and it means youth. A kid is a
