12:42

Waqala lillathi THanna annahu najin minhuma Uthkurni AAinda rabbika fa’ansahu ashshayṭunu thikra rabbih falabitha fee assijni biḍAAa sinin

The Aya says:

And he (Joseph) said to the one he concluded is surviving amongst the two: “mention me at your master’s”.  So Satan made him forget the mentioning, therefore, he lingered in jail some years.

My personal note:

The survivor got busy with his job and life and that Satan made him forget and therefore Joseph remained in jail a few years.

Translation of the transliterated words:

Waqala: and he said/ talked

Note: WA is for initiation of a sentence that is linked to previous issuese.  QALA is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying in any way possible. QALA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of saying happened by the subject (third person singular). This, in turn means: he said or talked discussed.

 Lillathi: to the one

Thanna: he thought/ he suspected/ he presumed

Note: the root is THA-N-N and it means conclusion without certainty or conclusion without verification. Therefore, it includes theory, prediction, suspicion/ assumption/ presumption and all thoughts that are not conclusively proven as facts.  THANNA is an action that is completed.  It means the action of suspecting/ presuming/ thinking of the object happened by the subject (third person singular)

Annahu: that he

Najin: safe/ secure/ saved

Note: the root is N-J-W and it means to come out of a tight situation or place or otherwise according to the situation. It is used to mean saving from a bad place but it can mean other things according to the context. One of the derivatives of the word is NAJWA which means the thing that people keep tightly held and that is their secret.  NAJIN means in the state of safety/ security and so on.

Minhuma: of the two of them

Uthkurni: mention me

Note: the root is TH-K-R and it means mention and remember, at the same time. The concrete word is something running on the tongue as if speaking it. Another concrete word is male or the male organ. The relationship between the two is not very clear and they can be different words that share the sound but have different root. It could be that the male is considered the active organ and that memory is an active process, but that is only a theory. UTHKURNI is an order or request addressed to an individual.  It means mention me or remember me.

AAinda: at

Rabbika: your master

Note: RABBUKA is derived from the root R-B-B and it means nurturing and Lordship as two components of the meaning that can be present together or one at a time according to the context of the sentence.   RABBI is nurturing Lord of or master of.  KA means singular you.

fa’ansahu: so made him forget

Note: FA means so or therefore or then.  ANSAHU is derived from the root N-S-W and it means to forget. ANSA means: the action of making the object (HU= him pointing to the survivor) forget happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to Satan)

ashshayṭunu: Satan / the one exiled from mercy

Note: the root is SH-TTa-N and it means in one of the concrete meanings the long rope and in another the long rope at the well that one uses to get the bucket out of the water. The term is used to mean far and away (in all the planes of thought) as the long rope and it is also used for displacement or pulling away, as a parallel to the rope that pulls the bucket out of the water. ALSHAITAN is the one who is far or away (from God’s mercy) and who works at pulling others away through his long “rope”. It is the word used from Satan.

Thikra: mentioning to/ mentioning of

Note: the root is TH-K-R and it means mention and remember, at the same time. The concrete word is something running on the tongue as if speaking it. Another concrete word is male or the male organ. The relationship between the two is not very clear and they can be different words that share the sound but have different root. It could be that the male is considered the active organ and that memory is an active process, but that is only a theory. THIKRA means mentioning of or mentioning to.

Rabbih: his nurturing Lord/ his master

Note: RABBIH is derived from the root R-B-B and it means nurturing and Lordship as two components of the meaning that can be present together or one at a time according to the context of the sentence.   RABBI is nurturing Lord of or master of.  HI means him.

 Falabitha: so he stayed

Note: FA means so or therefore or then. LABITHA is derived from the root L-B-TH and it means staying in the place or any form of staying. LABITHA is an action that is derived from the root. IT means the action of staying happened by the subject (third person singular).

Fee: in/ on

Assijni: the Jail/ prison

Note: the root is S-J-N and it means prison or captivity or being held in a place you cannot get out of.  ASSIJN means the jail/ prison/ captivity.

 biḍAAa: some/ a few

Note: the root is B-Dhad-Ain and it means in concrete a piece of meat or muscle and it also points to sexual intercourse.  The main use of this term is for part of you own that you put for trade.  In this context it is part of your life and so on.  BIdAAa means some or a few here.

Sineen: years

Note: SINEEN is derived from the root S-N-N and it means in concrete tooth or teeth. This word also takes many other meanings that are related in different words to the concrete. One of the meanings is aging and years, probably because the teeth change little with years and last long even after death. It is also used to mean the action that is repeated identically very much as the teeth chew identically through the years. In this context Sineen is for years.

Salaam all and have a great day
