إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللّهِ الإِسْلاَمُ وَمَا اخْتَلَفَ الَّذِينَ أُوْتُواْ الْكِتَابَ إِلاَّ مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءهُمُ الْعِلْمُ بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِآيَاتِ اللّهِ فَإِنَّ اللّهِ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ
Inna alddeena AAinda Allahi alislamu wama ikhtalafa allatheena ootoo alkitaba illa min baAAdi ma jaahumu alAAilmu baghyan baynahum waman yakfur biayati Allahi fainna Allaha sareeAAu alhisabi

The Aya says:
Verily, the obligation at God’s, (is) Islam/ the commitment to God’s path. And the people who were given the book did not discord except after the knowledge came to them (in) misdeed between them. And whoever rejects Allah’s signs, then Allah is quick to account.

My personal note:
Allah is quick to account means mainly that God can count any deed or act of any person in order to make them accountable for it with justice.

ISLAM is usually translated as submission to God. I translated as commitment to God’s path. I chose commitment because it carries the voluntary nature of the submission. Submission alone may carry an involuntary nature within the meaning. A Muslim voluntarily commits himself/herself to God’s path.

So, the obligation of the people towards God is the commitment to His path, and that is Islam.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Inna: Verily
Alddeena: The obligation/ the religion
Note: the root is D-Y-N and it means debt or law or religion. What groups them together is being an obligation and that is because the religion is the obligation of man towards God. ALDEENA is the obligation or the religion with religion being the obligation of man towards God.
AAinda: At presence of/at
Note: AAiNDA means at, but carries the meaning of at, or at presence of or at possession of according to the situation. AAiNDA here means at presence of.
Allahi: Allah
Alislamu: the commitment to God’s path/Islam
Note: the root is S-L-M and it means dissociation of a link for a re-association with another that is usually better. This carries the meaning of health and safety. It also carries the meaning of delivery from one to another and it carries the meaning of peace, since it is the dissociation from harm to peace. ALISLAM which is the name of the religion is also a dissociation from old links in order to associate oneself with God, by following God’s path.
Wama: and not
Ikhtalafa: they differed/they discorded
Note: the root is KH-L-F and it means behind in all of it’s meanings as in time or space or otherwise. IKHTALAFA is an interactive action that is completed and that is derived from the root. It means the action of making others behind each other happened in an interactive manner. This is then the expression that is used to mean that they differed because each puts the opinion of the other behind himself or herself.
Allatheena: those who
Ootoo: were given/ were brought
Note: the root is Hamza-T-Y and it means coming with determination. The concrete word is for the water that flows in a place where it did not rain, therefore suggesting that the water came from somewhere else. OOTOO is a completed action that is derived from the root. It means: the action of coming happened to object (third person plural) by an undisclosed subject. It then means literally: they were brought/something was made to come to them.
Alkitaba: the book
Note: the root K-T-B and it means putting things together as in grouping the herd together or closing the lips or writing (the most common use), because in writing, one puts the letters and the ideas together. ALKITABA means, the process of writing or the book or anything related to it from the ideas to the ink and paper to the place where all is put together.

baAAdi: after
Note: the root is B-Ain-D and it means further in time or space. In space it means farther in distance and in time, it means after. BaAADI here means: after.
Ma: what
Jaahumu: came to them
Note: the root is J-Y-Hamza and it means coming. One concrete word that is derived from this word is the pool where the rain water comes. JAA is an action that is completed and that is derived from the root. It means that the action of coming happened by the subject (third person singular masculine and is AlAAiLMU) to the object HUMU (third person plural masculine which is sex inclusive of males and females and points to the people of the book)
alAAilmu: the knowledge
Note: the root is Ain-L-M and it means knowledge. ALAAiLMU means the knowledge.
Baghyan: misdeedly/immaturely
Note: the root is B-GH-Y and it means the young unripe fruit and the young animal. This is some of the concrete meaning. It does attain the meaning of something to aspire to, as well as something bad or immature. Both may share that youth aspires to mature, and youth is associated with immaturity and foolish actions. BAGHYAN means immaturely or in an act of misdeed.

Yakfur: Rejects/happens to reject
Note: the root is K-F-R and it means covering the seed in the ground for planting. It is used to mean rejection of an idea because that means covering the brain in the ground from the idea or covering the idea so that it is not known or seen. YAKFUR is an action that is derived from the root and that is being completed or will be completed. It means the action of rejection is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular). It means he rejects or happens to reject.
Biayati: signs of/ in signs of
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. If bi serves as an object of the action that it serves as an emphasis of the action. AYATI is derived from the root Hamza-Y-H and it means sign. AYATI means signs of. So, here there is emphasis on the act of rejection of the signs.

Fainna: Then verily
Allaha: Allah
sareeAAu: Quick
Note: the root is S-R-Ain and it means quick or quickly. SAREEAAu means Quick.
Alhisabi: the calculation/ the accounting/ the measure
Note: the root is Ha-S-B and it means calculation. This word then takes many other meanings according to the plane of thought that is talked about. It takes the form of thought and so forth. ALHISAB is the account or the process of accounting. It means basically the making a person account for his/her actions.
