Salaam all,
This is 3:33
إِنَّ اللّهَ اصْطَفَى آدَمَ وَنُوحًا وَآلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلَ عِمْرَانَ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ
Inna Allaha istafa adama wanoohan waala ibraheema waala AAimrana AAala alAAalameena
The Aya says:
Verily, Allah chose, Adam and Noah and people of Abraham and people of Imran over all creation.
My personal note:
The word Istafa takes the meaning of the subject making purified or chosen the object for the subject. So, the Aya means that those people were chosen and purified by God for Himself. This means that they were chosen to serve God and propagate his message as well as other aspects of why God would choose some of his creation specifically for His service.
The words AALI were translated as people of. They can be the family of the person and that is correct, but on a wider scale, it involves all the people of the person and that includes the people that used the person as the leader or followed his path and direction.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Inna: Verily
Allaha: Allah
Istafa: made purified for Himself/ chose for Himself
Note: the root is Sad-F-W and it means clear and non turbid. In concrete it is the water that goes through the siv, therefore becomes clear of impurities. In abstract, it means clarity, purity and choice, as well as meanings of that genre. ISTAFA is an action that is complete that is derived from the root. It means that the action of making the object purified or chosen was done by the subject for the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah). The object/s are coming up.
Adama: Adam
Wanoohan: And Noah
Waala: and people of
Note: WA means and. ALI is derived from the root is Hamza-W-L and it means ultimate as a concept and takes different shapes and specific meanings according to the situation. ALI means: people who ultimately resort to the word that comes next. I shortened it to people of. They could be family of or the people that consider him their ultimate source and order and so forth.
Ibraheema: Abraham
Waala: and people of
Note: WA means and. ALI is derived from the root is Hamza-W-L and it means ultimate as a concept and takes different shapes and specific meanings according to the situation. ALI means: people who ultimately resort to the word that comes next. I shortened it to people of. They could be family of or the people that consider him their ultimate source and order and so forth.
AAimrana: Imran
Note: the bible mentions that this is the family of Moses, while here, the Qur’an is pointing to the family of Mary mother of Jesus (peace be upon all). Indeed both families have shared names since Mary is the same name as Miriam sister of Moses.
AAala: over/ on/ above
alAAalameena: All creation/ All humanity
Note: the root is Ain-L-M and it means knowledge or knowing. ALAAaLAMEENA means the known or the knowns. Since, it is talking about God, who knows everything, then it is pointing to all creation as in everything everywhere and anywhere and so forth.
Salaam all and have a great day

Salaam all,
This is 3:32
قُلْ أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْكَافِرِينَ
Qul ateeAAoo Allaha waalrrasoola fain tawallaw fainna Allaha la yuhibbu alkafireena
The Aya says:
Say (O Muhammad): make yourselves obey Allah willingly, and the messenger. So, if they followed their own direction, then Allah does not love the rejecters.
My personal note:
The Aya points to the fact that obeying Allah and His messenger is part of the system and the direction that is to be taken by the people of God. It reminds us that people who take their own direction away from God’s path are people who are not loved by Allah.
Again, the theme is that of God’s love and ways to reach God’s love. We have to always work on loving God and on making God love us. The Aya mentions one of the ways of earning God’s love and that is following his direction and path willingly.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Qul: Say
Note: Note: the root is Qaf-W-L and it means saying. QUL is an order addressing a single person and it means: Say

Note: WA means and. ALRRASOOLA is derived from the root R-S-L and it means the group of people or animals that were sent. ALRRASOOLA is the one that is sent and is used to mean the messenger because he was sent by the sender to the receiver.

It means: the action of loving is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to God). This, in effect means, HE loves
Alkafireena: The rejectors
Note: the root is K-F-R and it means covering. One of the concrete meanings of the word is the burying of the seed in the ground to plant it. This word also takes the meaning of rejecting or refusing something, since the person that rejects something will bury it in the ground. ALKAFIREENA are the rejecting ones or the rejecters.

If bi serves as an object of the action that it serves as an emphasis of the action. ALAAiBAD is derived from the root Ain-B-D and it means slave or servant. ALAAiBAD is the plural of slave or servant.

La yattakhithi almuminoona alkafireena awliyaa min dooni almumineena waman yafAAal thalika falaysa mina Allahi fee shayin illa an tattaqoo minhum tuqatan wayuhaththirukumu Allahu nafsahu waila Allahi almaseeru
The Aya says:
The ones who made themselves safe (in God) will not take the rejecters (as) guardians short of the ones who make themselves safe (in God). And whoever does that is not of Allah in any entity, except that you make yourselves conscious of them, consciousness. And Allah makes you aware of his own Self’s danger. And to Allah is the ending.
My personal note:
This Aya is important and enters in the polemics between Muslims and non Muslims. It centers on the use of the word Awliya which is often translated as friends. Awliya gives the meaning of people who are a combination or directors and guarantors. That is why I used the word guardians for the meaning. So Awliya can be understood as friends, but within that context which gives authority to direct a person in one or another direction and guarantee as well.
So, when God is asking the Mumins= believers or the ones who are safe in God not to take the rejecters as Awliya. He is, in essence, asking us to be independent from their direction, guarantee and guardianship. The Aya asks us to grant the guardianship only to those who are also safe in God. The Aya continues that it is ok to be conscious of the rejecters. Therefore consciousness (in whatever angle of meaning of this word) is fine, but guardianship and direction is not.
Another issue is the statement “And Allah makes you aware of His own Self’s danger”. This statement is a clear reminder to anyone never to take God for granted. It would be unwise to see this statement and say God is scary and dangerous while ignoring the Ayat that mention God’s love and Mercy. However, it is also unwise to see the Ayat that mention the Love and Mercy of God and forget this one as well. The big message is being aware of all. One ends up with the balance of the Love for God, the trust in His endless mercy, and the awareness of His danger if ignored or rejected.
Translation of the transliterated words:
La: not
Yattakhithi: they make themselves take/ they take
Note: the root is Hamza-KH-TH and it means taking. YATTAKHITHU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. Almuminoona: the ones who made themselves safe (in God)
Note: the root Hamza-M-N and it means safety. ALMUMINOONA means the ones who made themselves safe.

Awliyaa: guardians/ directors and protectors at the same time.
Note: the root is W-L-Y and it means direction and protection at the same time. AWLIYAA are the ones that provide to others direction and protection. Note: The root is Sad-Y-R and it means in concrete where the water ends. It is used to mean the end of a transformation or the ending of any process. ALMASEERU is the place or time of ending or both. It can also mean the ending.

You enter the night in the day and enter the day in the night. And You bring out the living from the dead and bring out the dead from the living. And You provide whomever You will without measure.
My personal note:

ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُواْ لَن تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ إِلاَّ أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَاتٍ وَغَرَّهُمْ فِي دِينِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفْتَرُونَ
Thalika biannahum qaloo lan tamassana alnnaru illa ayyaman maAAdoodatin wagharrahum fee deenihim ma kanoo yaftaroona
The Aya says:
That is because they happened to say: “Hell will not touch us except for a few days”. And what they made up of untruths misled them in their religion/ obligation to God.
My personal note:
This Aya touches on the issue of people making up arguments without foundation. Those arguments mislead people. It also mentions the issue of tearing oneself apart from the message. This happens when one makes something up and considers it his or her religion, when it is not.

Note: WA means and. GHARRAHUM is derived from the root GH-R-R and it means speculating without hard facts. This then takes many meanings including misleading or being too sure of oneself for the wrong reasons. One concrete meaning is the whiteness of the forehead of the horse. It’ relationship to the above meanings is not very clear, but it could be that one may presume things, without clear foundation, about the horse from his white forehead. It means: the action of making speculate without foundation happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to Ma= what----) to the object HUM which means them

Translation of the transliterated words:
Thalika: That is
Biannahum: By them
Qaloo: They said/ they happened to say
Note: the root is Qaf-W-L and it means saying in any way possible. QALOO is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of saying happened by the subject (third person plural). This, in turn means: they said or they happened to say.
Lan: Never
Tamassana: she will touch us
Note: the root is M-S-S and it means touching. This word then has different meanings to the word touching according to the plane of thought. TAMASSA is an action is being completed or will be completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of touching is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular feminine pointing to Alnnaru=the fire) to the object NA which means us.
Alnnaru: the fire/Hell
Note: the root is N-W-R and it means lighting. This could be lighting light or lighting fire according to the word. ALNNARU is the fire, and it is used to mean Hell.

maAAdoodatin: counted/ few
Note: the root is Ain-D-D and it means counting or count. This takes then different meanings according to the plane of thought of the sentence. MaAADOODATIN means: counted and it takes the meaning of few in here.
Wagharrahum: and misled them/ and made them speculate without foundation.
GHARRA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of making speculate without foundation happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to Ma= what----) to the object HUM which means them
fee: in
deenihim: their religion/ their obligation to God
Note: the root is D-Y-N and it means debt or law or religion. What groups them together is being an obligation and that is because the religion is the obligation of man towards God. DEENI is obligation of or religion of, with religion being the obligation of man towards God. HIM means them.
Ma: what
Kanoo: they were/ they happened to be

It means: the action of making break the skin become cut apart is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural) to itself. This is then taken to mean: they make themselves torn from the message. This happens when you make up untruths to be truths.

Salaam all,
This is 3:23
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ أُوْتُواْ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ الْكِتَابِ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى كِتَابِ اللّهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّى فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ وَهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ
Alam tara ila allatheena ootoo naseeban mina alkitabi yudAAawna ila kitabi Allahi liyahkuma baynahum thumma yatawalla fareequn minhum wahum muAAridoona
The Aya says:
Have you (Muhammad) not seen to those who received a portion of the book?! They are called to Allah’s book in order to judge between them. Then a group of them follows their own direction while avoiding/ blocking (God’s book).
My personal note:
This Aya mentions that all people of the book, which includes Muslims as well as Christians and Jews, need to judge by God’s book.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Alam: Not?!
Note: this is a question or it points to a beginning of a question.
Tara: you see
Note: the root is R-Hamza-Y and it means vision. It means vision as true vision and vision as opinion as well. TARA is an action that is being completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of vision is happening by the subject (second person singular). Because it came after the question, then ALAM TARA means: did you not see?!
Ila: to
Allatheena: those who/the ones who
Ootoo: Where given/ where brought
Note: the root is Hamza-T-Y and it means coming with determination. The concrete word is for the water that flows in a place where it did not rain, therefore suggesting that the water came from somewhere else. OOTOO is a completed action that is derived from the root. It means: the action of coming happened to the object (third person plural) by an undisclosed subject. It then means literally: they were brought/something or an entity was made to come to them.
Naseeban: A part/ A portion/ A pursued part
Note: The root is N-Sad-B and it means something elevated that it can be seen. It then can take many other meanings as in pursuit of something elevated, uphill or difficult and tiring effort and a worshipped stature since it is usually elevated or pursued. NASEEB is used to mean a portion of part of something. It could be a pursued part, since the elevated entity is an entity that is pursued. And God knows best.
Mina: of/ from
Alkitabi: the book
Note: the root K-T-B and it means putting things together as in grouping the herd together or closing the lips or writing (the most common use), because in writing, one puts the letters and the ideas together. ALKITABA means, the process of writing or the book or anything related to it from the ideas to the ink and paper to the place where all is put together.
yudAAawna: They are called
Note: the root is D-Ain-Y and it means calling as in calling someone for help or otherwise. YUDAAaWNA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of calling is happening or will be happening by an undisclosed subject to the object (third person plural).
Ila: to
Kitabi: book of
Note: the root K-T-B and it means putting things together as in grouping the herd together or closing the lips or writing (the most common use), because in writing, one puts the letters and the ideas together. KITABI means: book of.
Allahi: Allah/ God
Liyahkuma: in order to rule/ judge/ steer
Note: Li means to and in here it takes the meaning of in order to. YAHKUMA is derived from the root Ha-K-M and it means the steer that steers the animal. This word is used for ruling and judging as well as other meanings of steering. YAHKUMA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means the action of ruling/judging/ steering is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular and points to Book of God).
Baynahum: between them
Thumma: then
Note: this is a sequence in time or place or any plane of thought.
Yatawalla: they they take their own direction
Note: the root is W-L-Y and it means direction or following direction. YATAWALLA is an action that is being completed or will be completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of making oneself follow own direction is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).
Fareequn: A group
Note: the root is F-R-Qaf and it means separating apart or dispersing. FAREEQ is a product of that separation and that means a group.
Minhum: of them/ from them
Wahum: And they/ while they
muAAridoona: avoiding/blocking (the message)
Note: the root is Ain-R-Dhad and it means width. This has many abstract meanings as in standing in the way or closing the road. It also could mean avoiding since giving the width to others is the opposite to giving the front which is understood as accepting or receiving. It also means present and make something seen, because things are seen better if one sees their width. MuAARIDOONA here means: in a state of giving width and that means either avoiding or blocking.

Bialqisti: by the justice/ by the just portioning
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. If bi serves as an object of the action that it serves as an emphasis of the action. ALQISTI is derived from the root Qaf-S-TTA and it means portioning. Some derivatives of this root give the meaning of just portioning and others not. ALQISTI means the just portioning or the justice.
Mina: of/ from/ amongst

BASHSHIR is an order form of the verb addressing an individual. It means make good news arrive to the object HUM which means them. The good news is used in a relatively critical or sarcastic manner.
biAAathabin: of suffering
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. If bi serves as an object of the action that it serves as an emphasis of the action. AAaTHABIN is derived from the root is Ain-TH-B and it means to avoid desirable food or drink (ATHB) because of some suffering. AAaTHABIN is the process that makes one avoid the desirable and that is suffering.

Fain hajjooka faqul aslamtu wajhiya lillahi wamani ittabaAAani waqul lillatheena ootoo alkitaba waalommiyyeena aaslamtum fain aslamoo faqadi ihtadaw wain tawallaw fainnama AAalayka albalaghu waAllahu baseerun bialAAibadi
The Aya says:
So, if they disputed you (Muhammad) then say: I have committed my face to Allah, and those who followed me (also committed their faces to Allah). And say to those who were given the book and to the un-booked: have you committed yourselves to God’s path? So, if they committed themselves to God's path, then they have guided themselves, and if they followed their own direction, then your obligation, (is) only the delivery of the message, and Allah (has) deep insight in the servants.
My personal note:
Committing means that he is ready to receive his Lord and his message, since the face is what receives and meets and accepts. The Aya also points to the fact that the message is to be delivered to it’s destination, the people, and that is the job of the prophet and of us as his followers.
I want to add that the face brings about a sense of direction that one is facing and a reception or a readiness to receive. So, when the prophet says “I committed my face to Allah”, he is saying I am committing myself in Allah’s direction and I am ready to receive Him and His message at the same time.

إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللّهِ الإِسْلاَمُ وَمَا اخْتَلَفَ الَّذِينَ أُوْتُواْ الْكِتَابَ إِلاَّ مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءهُمُ الْعِلْمُ بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِآيَاتِ اللّهِ فَإِنَّ اللّهِ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ
Inna alddeena AAinda Allahi alislamu wama ikhtalafa allatheena ootoo alkitaba illa min baAAdi ma jaahumu alAAilmu baghyan baynahum waman yakfur biayati Allahi fainna Allaha sareeAAu alhisabi
The Aya says:
Verily, the obligation at God’s, (is) Islam/ the commitment to God’s path. And the people who were given the book did not discord except after the knowledge came to them (in) misdeed between them. And whoever rejects Allah’s signs, then Allah is quick to account.
My personal note:
Allah is quick to account means mainly that God can count any deed or act of any person in order to make them accountable for it with justice.
ISLAM is usually translated as submission to God. I translated as commitment to God’s path. I chose commitment because it carries the voluntary nature of the submission. Submission alone may carry an involuntary nature within the meaning. A Muslim voluntarily commits himself/herself to God’s path.
So, the obligation of the people towards God is the commitment to His path, and that is Islam.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Inna: Verily
Alddeena: The obligation/ the religion

The concrete word is for the water that flows in a place where it did not rain, therefore suggesting that the water came from somewhere else. It then means literally: they were brought/something was made to come to them.
Alkitaba: the book
Note: the root K-T-B and it means putting things together as in grouping the herd together or closing the lips or writing (the most common use), because in writing, one puts the letters and the ideas together. This one of the concrete words and the word is therefore used to mean protective covering in many fashions as in protecting the person from the error or protecting the person from the consequence of error and that is forgiveness. ALMUSTAGHFIREENA are the ones who seek God’s protective cover or God's forgiveness.
Bialashari: in the predawn
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. If bi serves as an object of the action that it serves as an emphasis of the action. ALASHARI is derived from the root S-Ha-R and it means magic as one of the meaning which is looking like something but being another. It also has the meaning of something that looks one way on one end and another at the other end. The word is used for the edges of day or night, especially the predawn, since it looks one way at one end and another at the other. ALASHAR are the predawns.
Take care all and have a great day

This is 3:17
الصَّابِرِينَ وَالصَّادِقِينَ وَالْقَانِتِينَ وَالْمُنفِقِينَ وَالْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِالأَسْحَارِ
Alssabireena waalssadiqeena waalqaniteena waalmunfiqeena waalmustaghfireena bialashari
The Aya says:
(They are) The patient ones, the truthful, the dedicated (to God), the spenders (to charity) and the seekers (of God’s) protective cover in predawn.
My personal note:
This continues the theme that was started in 3:15 and it gives further features of those people who will be close to God.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Alssabireena: The patient/ the one who are patient
Note: the root is Sad-B-R and it means jail or prison. The word is used to mean patience, since patience is about imprisoning our negative emotions and thoughts. ALSSABIRINA are the ones who are patient.
Waalssadiqeena: the truthful/ the ones who are truthful
Note: WA means and. ALSSADIQEENA is derived from the root Sad-D-Qaf and it means truth as in communication the truth and so forth. The word acquires other meanings related to the same principle as in great friend or act of charity as an act of truthfulness. ALSSADIQEENA are the ones who truthful.
Waalqaniteena: The ones who are dedicated/ the dedicated (To God)
Note: WA means and. ALQAITEENA is derived from the root is Qaf-N-T and it means dedicating. The meaning can have being silent in front of another, acceptance of the lordship of the one above him/her, worship, and standing as well. What puts all the meanings together best is dedication as the bigger concept.
Waalmunfiqeena: and the ones who spend (to charity)
Note: WA means and. ALMUNFIQEENA is derived from the root is N-F-Qaf and it means tunnel in the concrete sense. This is then used to mean anything that is tunneled from one place to another as in hiding your thoughts or presenting different than the ones that you hold. Another is tunneling you money to another destination as in giving some of your money to charity or so forth. Here, it is used for the tunneling of the money or the spending it for charity. ALMUNFIQEENA means the ones who spend to charity.
