This is 2:166
إِذْ تَبَرَّأَ الَّذِينَ اتُّبِعُواْ مِنَ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُواْ وَرَأَوُاْ الْعَذَابَ وَتَقَطَّعَتْ بِهِمُ الأَسْبَابُ
Ith tabarraa allatheena ittubiAAoo mina allatheena ittabaAAoo waraawoo alAAathaba wataqattaAAat bihimu alasbab
The Aya says:
As the ones whose footsteps were followed proceeded to dissociate themselves from the ones that followed. And they viewed the suffering and proceeded to be cut in/by them the connections.
My personal note:
One has to be careful if they are to be followed or if they followed. Both groups are responsible for their actions.
The translation of the transliterated words:
Ith tabarraa: As proceeded to dissociate
Note: ITH means as. TABARRAA is derived from the root B-R-Hamza and it means dissociation from something or someone. TABARRAA is the third person singular past tense of a verb that is derived from the root. The verb means literally, proceeded to arrive dissociation and that means proceeded to dissociate.
Allatheena: Those that
ittubiAAoo: were followed/whose footsteps were followed
Note: the root is T-B-Ain and it means following footsteps. ITTUBIAAoo is the third person plural past tense of a verb that is derived from the root. This verb means those whose steps were arrived following in a literal way. This in turn means those whose footsteps were followed.

Note: WA means and. RAAWOO is derived from the root R-Hamza-Y and it means viewing or seeing. RAAWOO is the third person plural past tense of a verb that is derived from the root. This verb means arrived vision/viewing literally. This in turn means they viewed.
alAAathaba: The suffering
Note: The root is Ain-TH-B and it means easy to swallow water or food. ALAAaTHAB is what makes one not to drink or eat something that is easy to swallow and that is suffering.
wataqattaAAat: and proceeded to be cut/proceeded to arrive cutting
Note: WA means and. TAQATTaAAaT is derived from the root Qaf-TTa-Ain and it means cutting. TAQATTaAAaT is the third person singular or plural past tense of a verb that is derived from this root. This verb means literally proceeded to arrive cutting. In here, it means proceeded to be cut.
Bihimu: In them/by them/at them
Alasbab: The connections
Note: the root is S-B-B and it means in concrete a thin peace of cloth that is used to wrap around the head to make a turban. In abstract it is used for cursing because it is related to the head or for connecting because this same cloth connects to each other and can be used to connect many things together. ALASBAB here means connections.
