إِلاَّ تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدْ نَصَرَهُ اللّهُ إِذْ أَخْرَجَهُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ثَانِيَ اثْنَيْنِ إِذْ هُمَا فِي الْغَارِ إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهِ لاَ تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللّهَ مَعَنَا فَأَنزَلَ اللّهُ سَكِينَتَهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَيَّدَهُ بِجُنُودٍ لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ السُّفْلَى وَكَلِمَةُ اللّهِ هِيَ الْعُلْيَا وَاللّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
Illa tansuroohu faqad nasarahu Allahu ith akhrajahu allatheena kafaroo thaniya ithnayni ith huma fee alghari ith yaqoolu lisahibihi la tahzan inna Allaha maAAana faanzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAalayhi waayyadahu bijunoodin lam tarawha wajaAAala kalimata allatheena kafaroo alssufla wakalimatu Allahi hiya alAAulya waAllahu AAazeezun hakeemun
The Aya says:
If you do not support him (Muhammad) then Allah supported him as the rejecters chased him out a second of two as both are in the cave as he says to his companion: “Do not worry. Allah is on our side” so Allah descended upon him His serenity, and aided him with troops that you could not see and made the statement of the rejecters the lower one, while Allah’s statement is the one on top. And Allah is dominantly strong, wise.
My personal note:
This is a great Aya in a sense because I am translating it at the time of the Islamic new year which commemorates this incident of the prophet and his companion migrating from Mecca to Medina and being chased by the rejecters to kill them and hiding in a mountain cave. The incident, although at the height of his weakness and vulnerability, turned out to be a turning point for Muslims because it marked the beginning of the Muslim state established by the prophet upon him be peace and he returned victorious in a few years to his hometown that he was running away from.

The point is that even at the point of extreme vulnerability and weakness, the person who is a believer should always recognize that Allah is with him/her, aware of him and supporting him/her.

Translation of the transliterated words:

Illa: if not
Tansuroohu: you aid him/ you (plural) support him
Note: the root is N-Sad-R and it means aid or support or backing whether in need or not but that is decisive in nature and can be the one that leads to a decisive victory and so on. TANSUROOHU is an action that is being completer or will be completed. In this context this applies to calming and soothing and reassuring feeling of safety.

Note: the root Ha-K-M and it means the steer that steers the animal. This word is used for ruling and judging as well as other meanings that contain steering as part of the concept. HAKEEM means wise or the steering. The steering means the entity that steers in the best way

The Aya says:
If you (plural) do not march, then He will punish you painful punishment and exchange you with other people and you will not harm him a bit, and Allah, upon everything, capable.
My personal note:
The Aya reminds us that we never Harm Allah by not abiding with what He asks us to do and that He eventually will do what He willed whether with us or by others that He replaces us with. It is a reminder to always be aware to be on Allah’s side of things.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ma lakum itha qeela lakumu infiroo fee sabeeli Allahi iththaqaltum ila alardi aradeetum bialhayati alddunya mina alakhirati fama mataAAu alhayati alddunya fee alakhirati illa qaleelun
The Aya says:
O you faithful, what about you (plural) when you were told: march in Allah’s path, you weighed yourselves to the earth? Did you content yourselves to this life from the next? Then the provisions of this life in the next life are nothing but minuscule.
My personal note:
The Aya is about marching orders to Tabuk in northern Arabia in order to fight the Byzantines who may have been amassing a force to attack. The Aya reminds the believers that holding on to this life too much is nothing when compared with the next, which has to be our main aim.

إِنَّمَا النَّسِيءُ زِيَادَةٌ فِي الْكُفْرِ يُضَلُّ بِهِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُحِلِّونَهُ عَامًا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُ عَامًا لِّيُوَاطِؤُواْ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللّهُ فَيُحِلُّواْ مَا حَرَّمَ اللّهُ زُيِّنَ لَهُمْ سُوءُ أَعْمَالِهِمْ وَاللّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْكَافِرِينَ
Innama alnnaseeo ziyadatun fee alkufri yudallu bihi allatheena kafaroo yuhilloonahu AAaman wayuharrimoonahu AAaman liyuwatioo AAiddata ma harrama Allahu fayuhilloo ma harrama Allahu zuyyina lahum sooo aAAmalihim waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alkafireena
The Aya says:
The delayed/ extra month is none other than an increase in the rejection. Those who reject will get misguided by it. They allow it one year and they prohibit it another in order to side step what Allah had made forbidden, therefore they allow what Allah had forbidden. Their bad actions were adorned for them and Allah does not guide the rejecting people.
My personal note:
This Aya covers the idea of adding an extra month every so and so years to make the lunar year close to the solar year. The Aya forbade it to make the time of the months that are forbidden to violate near constant and predictable.

The Aya also brings about a very important concept that the Muslim should not play with loop holes to forbid what Allah permitted nor to allow what Allah prohibited.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Innama: none other than
Alnnaseeo: the delay/ the extra month
Note: the root is N-S-Hamza and it means putting things behind in time or space of delaying things. ALNNASEEO is a month that delays the flow of the year. It is a month that communities using lunar calendars add every few years to make the lunar calendar closer to a solar calendar.
Ziyadatun: increase/ extra
Note: ZIYADATU is derived from root Z-W-D or Z-Y-D and it means the provision of the road or the food that one packs for travel. It has also the conceptual meaning of what is above the need, because one packs a little extra for the road. ZIYADATUN means increase or extra.

Alkufri: the rejection/ the denial
Note: The root is K-F-R and it means cover or bury in the ground, as in put the seed in the ground and cover it. This is then used conceptually for many purposes as in discarding and rejecting as well as burying. ALKUFR is the rejection or denial and so on.

Yudallu: get lost/ get misguided
Note: YUDALLU is derived from the root Dhad-L-L and it means getting lost as in lost the path or road in concrete terminology. Conceptually, it is used for any form of loosing the path, whether it is the path to a location or to the truth, or to be correct spiritually and so on. The imagery is very strong since loosing the path in the desert can mean near certain death. YUDALLU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the actions of loosing the path, or becoming misguided or becoming lost (in this context) is happening or will be happening to the object (ALLATHEENA Kafaroo= those who rejected) by an undeclared subject.
Bihi: in Him/ by him
Note: BI signifies an attachment or close linkage between what is before and what is after it. In a Verbal sentence it can mean attachment to the action or to the subject as it does the action. This attachment can then signify many things according to the verb and to the sentence and so on. HI means Him and points to the extra month.
