Salaam all,

This is 3:183
Allatheena qaloo inna Allaha AAahida ilayna alla numina lirasoolin hatta yatiyana biqurbanin takuluhu alnnaru qul qad jaakum rusulun min qablee bialbayyinati wabiallathee qultum falima qataltumoohum in kutum sadiqeena

The Aya says:
Those who said: Indeed Allah made us promise that not make ourselves trust in an envoy/messenger until he brings a sacrifice eaten by fire. Say (O Muhammad): indeed envoys came to you before me with the clarifiers including what you communicated, then why did you kill them if you (plural) happened to be truthful.

My personal note:
The Aya brings about the human psychology of asking for many conditions that seem to be impossible as a means for denial or rejection. The Aya here exposes such techniques

Translation of the transliterated words:
Allatheena: those who
Qaloo they said/ communicated
Note: QALOO is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying or communicating. QALOO is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the saying happened by the subject (third person plural).
Inna: indeed
Allaha: Allah
AAahida: demanded promise
Note: the root is Ain-H-D and it means a promise or a demand to promise or both. In here, it takes the meaning of a demand to promise. AAaHIDA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of demanding a promise from the object (ilayna= us) happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah).
Ilayna: to us/ from us
Alla: that not
Numina: we make our-selves safe
Note: the root is Hamza-M-N and it means safety. NUMINU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making the object (undeclared but it includes the subject mainly and others) safe is happening or will be happening by the subject (first person plural).
Lirasoolin: to a messenger/ to an envoy
Note: LI means to. RASOOLIN is derived from the root R-S-L and it means to envoy someone or a group of people or animals. The concrete word is RASL and it means a group of people or animals that were sent by their owners or senders. RASOOLIN means envoy or messengers. The term NUMINA LIRASOOLIN is affected by the LI to make it mean: we make ourselves trust a messenger or envoy.
Hatta: until
Yatiyana: he brings us
Note: from the root is Hamza-T-Y and it means in concrete the water that comes from the rain of another land. In a conceptual manner, it means the coming of something or someone with many of it’s implications. YATIYA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making an object (biqurban= an offering) come to another object NA=us) is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to envoy or messenger).
Biqurbanin: with an offering
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. QURBANIN is derived from the root Qaf-R-B and it means nearing or near. QURBANIN is an act or an entity that makes one nearer. It is used for offerings and sacrifices offered to God.
Takuluhu: eaten by
Note: the root is Hamza-K-L and it means eating. This will then take different meanings depending on the different planes of thought that a person has. TAKULU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means the action of eating is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to the fire) of the object HU= him and points to the offering.
Alnnaru: the fire
Note: the root is N-W-R and it means lighting. This could be lighting light or lighting fire according to the word and the context. ALNNARU is the fire.

Qablee: before me
Note: the root Qaf-B-L and it means front. This is then carried in time or space or any plain of thought. If it is in time, then front means before, while place would be in front. It is used to mean acceptance and reception since we receive and accept using our fronts. QABLEE here is front in time and that is before me.
Bialbayyinati: by/ with the clarifiers
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. ALBAYYINATI is derived from the route B-Y-N and it means between. This word then assumes many meanings as separation and distancing between two or more things. It also carries the meaning of clarification between two things. Here, it adopts the meaning of clarification. ALBAYYINATI means the clarifiers or clarifications.
Wabiallathee: and with that which
Qultum: you said/ you (plural) communicated
Note: the root is Qaf-W-L and it means saying but can cover any form of communicating. QULTUM is an action that is completed. It means: the action of saying or communicating happened by the subject (second person plural).

3:182

Salaam all,

This is 3:182
ذَلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَأَنَّ اللّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلاَّمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ
Thalika bima qaddamat aydeekum waanna Allaha laysa bithallamin lilAAabeedi

The Aya says:
That, by what forwarded your hands. And that Allah is not unjust to the slaves.

My personal note:
The word ABD means slave or servant. When a person is a slave of an entity, it is because of the enslaving entity having power over the slave. This power is either the power of love and devotion or the power of control. We are all God’s slaves because we either enslave ourselves through love and devotion, or otherwise. It is better to be the slave of God through love and devotion and that is the essence of worship.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Thalika: that
Bima: by what
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. MA means what
Qaddamat: they forwarded
Note: the root is Qaf-D-M and it means foot or the step forward. This is used conceptually in many occasions to point to moving forward or forwarding something and so on. QADDAMAT is an action that is completed. It means: the action of forwarding or putting forward happened by the subject (third person plural feminine pointing to Aydeekum= your hands).
Aydeekum: your hands
Note: the root is Y-D and it means hand. It is also used conceptually for anything that shares features or functions of hands. AYDEE means hands of. KUM means plural you.
Waanna: and that
Allaha: Allah
Laysa: not
Bithallamin: transgressing/ misplacing right and wrong/ unjust
Note: Bi in this location is for stressing what comes after it. THALLAMIN is derived from the root THA-L-M and it means darkness in the most concrete form. This word also takes the meaning of misplacing right from wrong and transgression since it is misplacing right from wrong and a decision made in darkness. THALLAMIN is the entity that misplaces right and wrong or unjust or transgresses. Here there is a stress in this statement.
lilAAabeedi: to the slaves/servants
Note: LI meant to or for, depending on the situation. ALAAaBEED is derived from the root Ain-B-D and it means slave or servant. ALAAaBEED means the slaves or the servants. In here, it points to all the creation because all are God’s slaves.

Salaam all and have a great day.

لَّقَدْ سَمِعَ اللّهُ قَوْلَ الَّذِينَ قَالُواْ إِنَّ اللّهَ فَقِيرٌ وَنَحْنُ أَغْنِيَاء سَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَالُواْ وَقَتْلَهُمُ الأَنبِيَاء بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَنَقُولُ ذُوقُواْ عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِ
Laqad samiAAa Allahu qawla allatheena qaloo inna Allaha faqeerun wanahnu aghniyaon sanaktubu ma qaloo waqatlahumu alanbiyaa bighayri haqqin wanaqoolu thooqoo AAathaba alhareeqi

The Aya says:
Indeed, Allah heard the saying of those who said: Indeed Allah is needy and we are free of need. We shall collect/write what they said and their killing of the prophets without right, and We shall say: Taste the suffering of the burning.

My personal note:
The word Samiaaa has the meaning of hearing and comprehension at the same time. Therefore it carries both meanings. The Aya talks about those people who claimed that God is needy when God is never needy, while we are always in need of His mercy.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Laqad: indeed
samiAAa: He heard/ He heard and comprehended perfectly
Note: The root is S-M-Ain and and it means hearing or hearing and understanding or knowing and retaining at the same time. SAMiAAa is an action that is derived from the root and that is completed. It means: The hearing and understanding happened by the subject (first person singular)

Waqatlahumu: and their killing of/ including their fatally injuring
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. QATLA is derived from the root Qaf-T-L and it means killing or actions leading to death as in causing serious injury. QATLA is the killing of or the fatal injury of. HUMU means them. QATLAHUMU means their killing or fatally injuring of.
Alanbiyaa: the prophets
Note: the term is derived from either one of two roots. The first is N-B-Hamza and it means news. The other is N-B-Y and it means elevated. The word NABIYY means a prophet, and it could be because the prophet brings news or that he is elevated over others or both. ALANBIYA means: the prophets.
Bighayri: by other than than
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. If bi serves as an object of the action that it serves as an emphasis of the action. Here, the action is killing. GHAYRI is derived from the root GH-Y-R and it means other or different from. GHAYRI means different or other than.
Haqqin: binding right
Note: the root Ha-Qaf-Qaf and it means binding right where right means correct as well s what is due to one person (rights and obligations). HAQQUN is binding right or binding truth.

Note: the root Ha-R-Qaf and it means burn or burning. ALHAREEQI is the burn or the fire.

The Aya says:
And those who are stingy with what Allah brought them of His abundance should not calculate that it is good for them, but it is bad. On the Day of Judgment, their necks will be tightly surrounded by what they did not share. And to Allah belongs the inheritance of the heaven and the earth. And Allah is well informed of what you (plural) do.

My personal note:
This Aya has a strong message of sharing and generosity. It gives a strong message for those who are stingy. It gives the message that not sharing is worse for them than sharing. The imagery of the Day of Judgment when all what they did not share is brought around their necks is powerful.

The Aya reminds us that all belongs to God and when we die, all will return to God. No need for not sharing.

The Aya says:
And Allah would not leave the ones who make themselves safe on what you (plural) are upon until He distinguishes the doer of no good from the good doer. And Allah would not make you (plural) perceive the unperceived. But Allah collects/ chooses of His envoys whoever He wills. Therefore make yourselves safe in Allah and His envoys and if you make yourselves safe including act consciously, then to you (plural) belongs great compensation for action.

My personal note:
The term ma kana Allahu literally means: Allah not happened to be or Allah was not but that is not the actual usage of the term in Arabic. However, that structure would actually be used to mean: Allah would not, and that is how I translated it.

Translation of the transliterated words:

Note: the root is GH-Y-B and it means unperceived in general. Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. TATTAQOO is derived from the root W-Qaf-Y and it means guarding and the best form of guarding is consciousness or action and thoughts according to consciousness. TATTAQOO is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making oneself conscious or guard is happening or will be happening by the subject (second person plural).
Falakum: then to you (plural) belongs
Ajrun: compensation/ Compensation for work
Note: the root is Hamza-J-R and it means compensation for work done. AJRUN means compensation of work or just compensation

Note: the root is Ain-TH-M and it means great/hard/strong. The concrete word is AAaTHM and that is the bones or the hard/strong/firm core of things. AAaTHEEM means great.

Salaam all and have a great day.

3:178

Salaam all,

This is 3:178
وَلاَ يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لِّأَنفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُواْ إِثْمًا وَلَهْمُ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
Wala yahsabanna allatheena kafaroo annama numlee lahum khayrun lianfusihim innama numlee lahum liyazdadoo ithman walahum AAathabun muheenun

The Aya says:
And those who rejected should not count that what we make expanded for them (of time and space and others) is good for their own selves. We but expand for them in order that they are increased in sin. And to them belongs humiliating suffering.

My personal note:
This Aya gives an important lesson and that is when one has something expanded for them as in living a long productive life or owning lots of land or being very rich or owning lots of good things in life. Those should not always be taken as blessings or signs that the person is on the right path. They can be tests that when a person uses them for a wrong reason, they will turn into being curses.

So, here the example is given of people who reject the message. They are expanded in lots of things, but the example that is given in this Aya tells us that they will end up misusing it and then they will increase their rejection which sends them to humiliating suffering that deems them weightless and worthless.

This should not mean that any person who is blessed with long life or lots of provisions is one who will suffer, but only those who have them and reject God and his message. Those who are blessed with worldly goods and use them in God’s path are blessed in this life and the next. So are those who are blessed with worldly goods while being unbelievers and then become believers.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Wala: and not
Yahsabanna: they calculate/ figure/ think/ measure
Note: the root is Ha-S-B and it means calculation. This word then takes many other meanings according to the plane of thought that is talked about. It takes the form of thought and so forth. KAFAROO is an action that is derived from the root and that is completed. It means the action of rejection happened by the subject (third person plural pointing to any group that fits the description. Here it points to allatheena= those who). It means they rejected.
Annama: that what
Numlee: We expand time/ space
Note: the root is M-L-Y and it means the wide expanse of time or space. In time it takes long time and for space a wide open space. NUMLEE is an action that is happening or will be happening. Lahum: for them. To them
Khayrun: good/ choice
Note: the root is KH-Y-R and it means choice. It is also understood as good or as better, because one would chose the good over the bad. KHAYRUN means: good or best choice.
Lianfusihim: to themselves/ for themselves
Note: Li means to and it can take the meaning of for. ANFUSI is derived from the root N-F-S and it means to breath but is extended to mean self since the self breathes and that defines her existance. ANFUSI is a noun that is derived from this root and it means Selves of. HIM means them or they.

It has also the meaning of what is above the need, as if the food of the road is considered a little extra. YAZDADOO is an action that is completed and it means: the action of making oneself extra of the object (THMAN= sin) happened by the subject (third person plural).
Ithman: sin/break of law
Note: the root is Hamza-TH-M and it means breaking of rule or rules. This means error or fault with a tinge of knowing it. ITHM is the breaking of the rule or the law or the error or the fault and it fits closely with sin when knowing that it is sin.
Walahum: and to them belongs
AAathabun: suffering
Note: the root is Ain-TH-B and it means an easy to swallow food or drink. AAaTHAB is what makes one not take an easy to swallow food or drink. That is suffering.

Note: the root is H-W-N and it means easy and supple and of low weight. Conceptually, it is used for any matter that does not weigh heavily on others. This can be positive as in making something easy. It can be negative as when a person or group of people become with no weight, as in becoming humiliated. MUHEEN means: makes them with no weight. Here it takes the meaning of humiliating or makes them worthless.

Salaam all and have a great day

3:177

Salaam all,

This is 3:177
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوُاْ الْكُفْرَ بِالإِيمَانِ لَن يَضُرُّواْ اللّهَ شَيْئًا وَلهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Inna allatheena ishtarawoo alkufra bialeemani lan yadurroo Allaha shayan walahum AAathabun aleemun

The Aya says:
Verily, those who took the rejection in place of the safety (in Allah) will never harm Allah. And to them belongs painful suffering.

My personal note:
There is a great subtle message in this Aya. It suggests that the default for humans is the safety in Allah. Those who reject God are ones who gave up their default safety in Allah to receive the rejection and that is a loosing form of trade.

It also suggests that deep inside all of us humans, we have the urge, conscious or unconscious, to respond to God’s message. When we reject it, it is because of an active process of rejecting or silencing that deep urge.

Alternatively, the Aya may be talking about people who accepted the message and then rejected it. Both meanings are possible and are compatible with each other.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Inna: verily/ indeed
Allatheena: those who
Ishtarawoo: took --- in exchange for---/ bought --- in exchange for ---

Note: ALKUFR is derived from the root K-F-R and it means burying the seed in the ground for planting. It is used to mean rejection of an idea because that means covering the brain in the ground from the idea or covering the idea so that it is not known or seen. ALKUFR means the rejection.
Bialeemani: by the safety/ by the making safety/ in place of the safety
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. ALEEMANI is derived from the root Hamza-M-N and it means safety. ALEEMANI is the safety or trust.
Lan: : never
Yadurroo: will they harm/ will they cause harm/ will they cause no benefit
Note: the root is Dhad-R-R and it means harm or no benefit. YADURROO is an action that is being completed or will be completed. 3:176

Salaam all,

This is 3:176
وَلاَ يَحْزُنكَ الَّذِينَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْكُفْرِ إِنَّهُمْ لَن يَضُرُّواْ اللّهَ شَيْئاً يُرِيدُ اللّهُ أَلاَّ يَجْعَلَ لَهُمْ حَظًّا فِي الآخِرَةِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
Wala yahzunka allatheena yusariAAoona fee alkufri innahum lan yadurroo Allaha shayan yureedu Allahu alla yajAAala lahum haththan fee alakhirati walahum AAathabun AAatheemun

The Aya says:
And the ones who hurry in the rejection should not sadden you (singular pointing to Muhammad pbuh). They indeed will never harm Allah a thing. Allah seeks not to make for them a grasped opportunity in the hereafter, and to them belongs great suffering.

My personal note:
This Aya reassures the prophet pbuh that no one will harm God through rejection.

It carries also the issue of God wanting them not to have an opportunity in the hereafter. This is the response to their rejection and not the intent of God from the beginning, therefore they bear the responsibility for this predicament that they put themselves in. It is also to be understood that this closure of opportunity is reversible whenever the person moves away from his/her rejection and into acceptance and safety in God.

The third issue here is that this is all in God’s knowledge and it is not up to humans to decide who of the other humans fall into this category, no matter how much animosity to Allah they showed. The great scholars of Islam always were in agreement never to condemn a particular person to Hell unless condemned by Allah in the Qur’an. The scholars condemn the actions that lead to Hell but they do not point to particular persons.

Translation of the transliterated words:

Wala: and not
Yahzunka: makes you (singular) sad
Note: the root is Ha-Z-N and it means sadness/ being worried or being sorry. All the meanings are related in the sense of sadness or anxiety and regret at the same time. Innahum: they indeed
Lan: never
Yadurroo: will they harm/ will they cause harm/ will they cause no benefit
Note: the root is Dhad-R-R and it means harm or no benefit. YADURROO is an action that is being completed or will be completed. 3:175

Salaam all,

This is 3:175
إِنَّمَا ذَلِكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ يُخَوِّفُ أَوْلِيَاءهُ فَلاَ تَخَافُوهُمْ وَخَافُونِ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Innama thalikumu alshshaytanu yukhawwifu awliyaahu fala takhafoohum wakhafooni in kuntum mumineena

The Aya says:
This is but Satan. He makes his protégés scare, therefore do not fear them, but fear me (Allah), if you happen to be ones who make themselves safe.

My personal note:
The term Satan makes his protégés scare has the double meaning of making them afraid and of making them scary to others. The Aya does give the order to the ones who make themselves safe not to fear any entity but Allah.

The fear of Allah is a theme that comes often in the Qur’an. It comes in the context of not fearing any other entity as in here. It also comes in other contexts. It is important to understand that the Qur’an talks about many issues related to relationships between creation and Allah, as in the fear of Allah, the reward of Allah, the mercy of Allah as well as the love of Allah. All those have to be taken together in order to arrive at the picture of the love for Allah that is purified from taking God for granted.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Innama: it is but
Thalikumu: that
Alshshaytanu: Satan
Note: the root is SH-Ta-N and it means the long rope at the well that one uses to get the bucket out of the water. The term is used to mean far and away (in all the planes of thought) as the long rope and it is also used for displacement or pulling away, as a parallel to the rope the pulls the bucked out of the water. ALSHAITAN is the one who is far or away (from God’s mercy) and who works at pulling other away through his long “rope”. It is the word used from Satan.
Yukhawwifu: He makes fear
Note: the root is KH-W-F and it means fear or scare. YUKHAWWIFU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making fear scare is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to Satan) to the object (AWLIYAAHU= the ones he is guardian on). This Make scare or fear carries two potential meanings that are correct. It means that he makes them afraid and that he makes them scare others.
Awliyaahu: The ones on whom he is guardian/ the ones who chose him as guardian/ His protégés.
Note: the root is W-L-Y and it means direction or following direction with some guarantee. It comes close to guardianship. AWLIYAA are ones who have guardian as. HU means him. AWLIYAAHU takes the meaning the ones who chose him as guardian as the closest meansing
Fala: then not
Takhafoohum: you become afraid of them
Note: the root is KH-W-F and it means fear or scare. TAKHAFOO is an order for action addressed to a group of people. LA TAKHAFOO is an order that says: Do not be afraid of/ do not become scared of. HUM means them.
Wakhafooni: and fear me/ but fear me
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. In this sentence, it takes the meaning of but. KHAFOONI is derived from the root KH-W-F and it means fear or scare. KHAFOO is an order for action addressed to a group of people. KHAFOO is an order that says: fear/ become scared of. NI means me.
In: if
Kuntum: you happened to be/ you were
Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being. KUTUM is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of being happened by the subject (second person plural). This in turn means: You (plural) were or you happened to be.
Mumineena: ones who make themselves safe
Note: the root Hamza-M-N and it means safety. MUMINEENA means ones who make themselves safe.

Salaam all and have a great day

Salaam all,

This is 3:174
فَانقَلَبُواْ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللّهِ وَفَضْلٍ لَّمْ يَمْسَسْهُمْ سُوءٌ وَاتَّبَعُواْ رِضْوَانَ اللّهِ وَاللّهُ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَظِيمٍ
Fainqalaboo biniAAmatin mina Allahi wafadlin lam yamsashum sooon waittabaAAoo ridwana Allahi waAllahu thoo fadlin AAatheemin

The Aya says:

Therefore they were transformed by softness from Allah, and abundance of good. No harm touched them, and they joined and followed Allah’s loving acceptance. And Allah is (the) one of great abundance.

My personal note:

The Aya continues the theme. It reassures us that those who join and follow God’s path and do well, including acting according to consciousness of Allah, will be transformed in a great way. This is a transformation that brings people closer to God.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Fainqalaboo: therefore they were transformed
Note: FA means therefore or so or then. INQALABOO is derived from the root Qaf-L-B and it means turning 180 degrees or upside down. The word is used for heart, because it is the organ that changes it’s moods often. In this sentence, it is used to point to a transformation. INQALABOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of transforming the object (third person plural) happened by an undeclared subject (it could be the object itself or others).
biniAAmatin: by softness/ with softness/
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. NiAAMATIN is derived from the root N-Ain-M and it means soft in the concrete sense. In abstract, it means anything that can be understood as soft as in soft to touch and soft in treatment and soft life as in a life that does not have hardship.
Mina: from
Allahi: Allah
Wafadlin: and bounty/ and abundance of good
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. Fadlin is derived from the root F-Dhad-L and it means overflowing of good or being able to fulfill all your needs of an entity and then still have more of it spared. It can also mean abundance due to the same reason. FADLIN means: overflowing of good or provision of more goodness than is required to cover the needs so that there will remain more of it left.
Lam: not
Yamsashum: will touch them
Note: the root is M-S-S and it means touching. This is the conceptual meaning of the word and becomes specific according to the plane of thought. YAMSASKUM is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of touching the object (HUM=them) is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to sooon= hated entity/ harm)
Sooon: hated experience/ harm
Note: the root is S-W-Hamza and it means hated word or deed or hated words or deeds or experiencing what is hated. SOOON is harm or hated experience and meanings around that concept.

Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. ITTABaAAoo is derived from the root T-B-Ain and it means following footsteps or following behind, or joining and following. ITTABaAAoo is an action that is completed. It means: the action of making oneself follow happened by the subject (third person plural)
ridwana: loving acceptance of
Note: the root is R-Dhad-Y and it means accepting lovingly. RIDWANA means loving acceptance or acceptance lovingly of.

It can also mean abundance due to the same reason. FADLIN means: overflowing of good or provision of more goodness than is required to cover the needs so that there will remain more of it left.
AAatheemin: great
Note: the root is Ain-TH-M and it means great/hard/strong. The concrete word is AAaTHM and that is the bones or the hard/strong/firm core of things. AAaTHEEM means great.

3:173

Salaam all,

This is 3:173

الَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ النَّاسُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُواْ لَكُمْ فَاخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَاناً
وَقَالُواْ حَسْبُنَا اللّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Allatheena qala lahumu alnnasu inna alnnasa qad jamaAAoo lakum faikhshawhum fazadahum eemanan waqaloo hasbuna Allahu waniAAma alwakeelu

The Aya says:
Those who were told by the people: the people have indeed gathered against you, therefore anticipate/ fear them, so he increased their safety (in Allah), and they responded: Allah is enough for us, and the best to be entrusted with guardianship and guarantee.

My personal note:
The term “He increased their safety” is the literal translation of the term. I kept it the same to keep open the meaning of He, since it is not limited by the text. He can point to Allah. It also can point to what they were told by the people and it can point to both. This is rather common in the Qur’an where more than one understanding is possible. As long as the potential understandings are correct and correspond with the context and as long as they are not contradictory to the rest of the message, then they are considered correct and binding.

This gives the Qur’an a much wider range of meanings than the size of the book itself suggests and this makes for it’s great literary and spiritual and practical values.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Allatheena: those who
Qala: they said/ they communicated
Note: the root is Qaf-W-L and it means saying or communicating. QALA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of saying or communicating happened by the subject (third person plural pointing to ALNNASU= the people/society).
Lahumu: to them
Alnnasu: the people/ the society
Note: ALNNASU is derived from the root Hamza-N-S and it means socializing. ALNNAS are the society/the people.
Inna: verily/indeed
Alnnasa: the people/ the society
Note: ALNNASA is derived from the root Hamza-N-S and it means socializing. ALNNAS are the society/the people.
Qad: indeed
Note: this is to stress further
jamaAAoo: gathered/ collected
Note: the root is J-M-Ain and it means gather the different parts together or putting things together. JAMaAAoo is an action that is completed. It means: the action of gathering or collecting happened by the subject (third person plural pointing to Alnnas= the people). The gathering here can carry two meanings which apply: First is gathering themselves. The other is gathering material and resources for a battle and both meanings are correct and apply.
Lakum: to you (singular)/ for you (with the understanding against you)
Faikhshawhum: then fear them/ then anticipate fear
Note: FA means then or therefore or so. IKHSHAWHUM is derived from the root KH-SH-Y and it carries meanings of anticipation and fear. Sometimes, both meanings are together and sometimes only one. When there is anticipation, then there may be an element of hope mixed with the fear. IKHSHAWHUM is an order addressed to a group. It means: Fear them or anticipate them or anticipate fear of them.
Fazadahum: therefore, he increased them/ He gave them provisions for the road
Note: Fa means therefore or so or then. ZADHUM is derived from the root Z-W-D and it means the provision of the road or the food that one packs for travel. It has also the meaning of what is above the need, as if the food of the road is considered a little extra. ZADA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of giving provision for the road or increasing provisions to the object (HUM= them) happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to what people told them or to God).
Eemanan: Safety/ trust (in Allah)
Note: The root is Hamza-M-N and it means safety. EEMANAN is safety or trust.
Waqaloo: and they said/ communicated/ and they responded
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. QALOO is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying or communicating. QALOO is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the saying happened by the subject (third person plural).
Hasbuna: enough for us/ more than adequate for us.
Note: the root is Ha-S-B and it means calculation. This word then takes many other meanings according to the plane of thought that is talked about. It takes the form of thought and so forth. HASBU means enough of a measure or adequate or more than adequate for. NA means us.
Allahu: Allah
waniAAma: and softness/ and best
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. NiAAMA is derived from the root N-Ain-M and it means soft in the concrete sense. In abstract, it means anything that can be understood as soft as in soft to touch and soft in treatment and soft life as in a life that does not have much hardship. NiAAMA means: softness or best.
Alwakeelu: the one entrusted with guardianship and guarantee.
Note: the root is W-K-L and it means entrusting a matter to another, or trusting the guarantee or guardianship of another. ALWAKEEL is the one who is entrusted with guardianship and guarantee.

Allatheena istajaboo lillahi waalrrasooli min baAAdi ma asabahumu alqarhu lillatheena ahsanoo minhum waittaqaw ajrun AAatheemun

The Aya says:
Those who responded to Allah and the envoy/messenger after the sore wound hit them. To those who made goodness amongst them including acted according to consciousness (of Allah) (is) great compensation.

My personal note:
This Aya is an extension of the previous one. It defines the people who made themselves safe in Allah who were promised glad tidings. It defines them as the people who responded to the calling from Allah and His messenger after they were hit with the sore wound, including making beauty (of all it’s angles) happen and acting according to the consciousness of Allah.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Allatheena: those who
Istajaboo: responded/ sought to respond (with the understanding that they responded)

Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. ALRRASOOLI is derived from the root R-S-L and it means to envoy someone or a group of people or animals. The concrete word is RASL and it means a group of people or animals that were sent by their owners or senders. ALRRASOOLI means the envoy or the messenger.

Alqarhu: the sore/ the open wound
Note: the root is Qaf-R-Ha and it means open wound or sore are. This is then used as a concept to build meanings on it. ALQARHU is the open wound or injury or sore, or the effect of it or both.

Note: the root is Ha-S-N and it means beauty in all the angles of thought of beauty. AHSANOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of making beauty or goodness happened by the subject (third person plural).

Either that what is before and after are included in each other, or all are included in the sentence or bigger picture. ITTAQAW is derived from the root W-Qaf-W and it means guarding or protecting. Since the best way to guard is through consciousness and action according to consciousness. ITTAQAW is an action that is completed. يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللّهِ وَفَضْلٍ وَأَنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Yastabshiroona biniAAmatin mina Allahi wafadlin waanna Allaha la yudeeAAu ajra almumineena

The Aya says:
They seek/ receive glad tidings of softness from Allah, and abundance of good. And that Allah does not make (the) compensation for work of the ones who make themselves safe (in Him) lost.

My personal note:
The aya continues the theme of God’s softness and abundance of good on the ones who served Him and were faithful to Him. He reassures us that none of the work of the ones who made themselves safe in Him will be lost.

Translation of the transliterated words:

It means: the action of: seeking or receiving glad tidings is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).
BiniAAmatin: by softness/ with softness/
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. Fariheena bima atahumu Allahu min fadlihi wayastabshiroona biallatheena lam yalhaqoo bihim min khalfihim alla khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona

The Aya says:
Joyous by what Allah had given them of His bounty and seeking/receiving glad tidings of those who have not yet joined them, that no fear on them, nor will they be sad/ anxious/ worried.

My personal note:
This continues the description of the group who are killed while on Allah’s path. It describes their joy with the company of their Lord and His bounty and the fact that they seek and receive the glad tidings of those who will join them.

The term lam yalhaqoo bihim min khalfihim would be literally translated like this: Not joined them from after them. This is why I translated it as: have not yet joined them because this is the closest to what the original Arabic is saying.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Fariheena: joyous/overjoyed
Note: the root is F-R-Ha and it means lots of joy. FARIHEENA means: overjoyed or joyous.

The Aya says:
And do not think (O Muhammad) that those who were killed in the path of Allah dead, but living at presence of their Nurturing Lord, being provided.

My personal note:
This is another Aya of the Qur’an that declares again that those who were killed while on the path of Allah are not dead, but living and being provided for by their Lord. In the Aya 2:154, it touches on the issue of living of those people. It declares that we do not sense their lives. This reveals a definition of life that is wider than what our current and narrow knowledge perceives.

Translation of the transliterated words:

The Aya says:
And in order that He (Allah) knows for fact those who hid rejection while projecting belief and was said to them: Come fight in path of Allah or defend. They responded: have we known fighting we would have joined and followed you. That day they were closer to rejection than safety (in Allah). They say with their mouths what is not in their hearts and minds, while Allah knows better what they suppress.

My personal notes:
NAFAQOO is a term used for hypocrites or anyone who hides something while projecting another. It is also used at times for people who may have some Iman= safety in Allah, but also hiding some element of rejection of God’s message or part of it. In here, it mentions that those people are somewhere in between, but at that moment they were closer to rejection.

Translation of the transliterated words:
