3:170

Salaam all,

This is 3:170
فَرِحِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَلْحَقُواْ بِهِم مِّنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَلاَّ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
Fariheena bima atahumu Allahu min fadlihi wayastabshiroona biallatheena lam yalhaqoo bihim min khalfihim alla khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona

The Aya says:
Joyous by what Allah had given them of His bounty and seeking/receiving glad tidings of those who have not yet joined them, that no fear on them, nor will they be sad/ anxious/ worried.

My personal note:
This continues the description of the group who are killed while on Allah’s path. It describes their joy with the company of their Lord and His bounty and the fact that they seek and receive the glad tidings of those who will join them.

The term lam yalhaqoo bihim min khalfihim would be literally translated like this: Not joined them from after them. This is why I translated it as: have not yet joined them because this is the closest to what the original Arabic is saying.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Fariheena: joyous/overjoyed
Note: the root is F-R-Ha and it means lots of joy. FARIHEENA means: overjoyed or joyous.

Bima: by what/ with what
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. MA means what
Atahumu: He brought them
Note: ATAHUMU is derived from the root Hamza-T-Y and it means in concrete the water that comes from the rain of another land. In a conceptual manner, it means the coming of something or someone with many of it’s implications. ATA is an action that was completed. It means: the action of making an object (thwaba= reward) come to another object (humu= them) happened by the subject (first person singular pointing to Allah).

Allahu: Allah
Min: from
Fadlihi: His bounty/ His favor/ His abundance
Note: the root is F-Dhad-L and it means overflowing of good or being able to fulfill all your needs from an entity and then still have more of it spared. It can also mean abundance due to the same reason. FADLI means: overflowing of good of or provision of more goodness than is required to cover the needs so that there will remain more of it left. HI means Him and it points to God.

Wayastabshiroona: and they seek glad tidings/ and they receive glad tidings
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. YASTABSHIROONA is derived from the root B-SH-R and it means the outer skin and is used to mean softness and beauty. In abstract, it can mean many things including good news and happiness as the beautiful skin can do. YASTABSHIROONA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of: seeking or receiving glad tidings is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).
Biallatheena: by those who/ in those who/ about those who
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. ALLATHEENA means: those who
Lam: not
Yalhaqoo: they reached them/ joined them
Note: the root is L-Ha-Qaf and it means in concrete usage: the second crop of fruit from the tree. In conceptual usage, the word is used for what comes after, pursuit and reaching another group. Following and joining a group that has already arrived and so on. YALHAQOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of following and joining or reaching happened by the subject (third person plural).
Bihim: by them/ with them
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If it is an object of the action then it makes it stronger. HIM means them.
Min: from
Khalfihim: after them
Note: the root is KH-L-F and it means behind in time or place or any other plane of thought. For time, it takes the meaning of what happens after or the future. KHALFI means behind of. HIM means them.
Alla: that not
Khawfun: fear
Note: the root is KH-W-F and it means fear. KHAWFUN means fear
AAalayhim: on them
Wala: and not/ and no
Hum: they
Yahzanoona: be worried/ be sad/ be sorry
Note: the root is Ha-Z-N and it means sadness/ being worried or be sorry. All the meanings are related in the sense of sadness or anxiety at the same time. YAHZANOONA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means the action of sadness or worry or being sorry will happen by the subject (third person plural). However, the WALA HUM YAHZANOONA gives a negation to this action and it means and they will not worry or be sad and sorry.

Salaam all and have a great day

Hussein
