8:40

Salaam all,

8:40
وَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَاعْلَمُواْ أَنَّ اللّهَ مَوْلاَكُمْ نِعْمَ الْمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيرُ

Wain tawallaw faiAAlamoo anna Allaha mawlakum niAAma almawla waniAAma alnnaseeru
The Aya says:
And if they follow their own path, then be aware that Allah is your guardian, Best of the guardian and best of the supporter.
My personal note:
This Aya contrasts the two potential decisions of the rejecters. The first one from the previous Aya talks about desisting or stopping the aggression and persecution. In that context if they did it then Muslims are asked to let their matter be to Allah and not worry about their hearts.

In here is the other option and that is they follow their own path and that means continue aggression and persecution so in that case then Allah reassures the Muslims that He is their Guardian and will take care of them and there is not a better Guardian than Allah.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Wain: and if/ while if
tawallaw: move away/ ignore/ follow their path
TAWALLAW is derived from the root W-L-Y and it means direction or following direction with some guarantee. It comes close to guardianship. WALI is either the one who is a guardian or the one who receives guardianship of another or both. TAWALLAW is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of directing oneself is happening or will be happening by the subject (second person plural).
faiAAlamoo: then know/ be aware
Note: FA means then or therefore or so. iAALAMOO is derived from the root Ain-L-M and it means knowing/knowledge or knowledge of facts. iAALAMOO is an order or a request addressed to a group. It means: know or know for fact.

Anna: that
Allaha: Allah
Mawlakum: your (plural) guardian
Note: the root is W-L-Y and it means direction or following direction with some guarantee. It comes close to guardianship. MAWLA is either the one who is a guardian or the one who receives guardianship of another or both. In this context, guardian is the one that applies. KUM is plural you

niAAma: wonderful / smooth/ best of
Note: the root is root N-Ain-M and it means soft in the concrete sense. In abstract, it means anything that can be understood as soft as in soft to touch and soft in treatment and soft life as in a life that does not have much hardship. NiAAMA is an expression of greatness about an entity or praise.
Almawla: the guardian
Note: the root is W-L-Y and it means direction or following direction with some guarantee. It comes close to guardianship. MAWLA is either the one who is a guardian or the one who receives guardianship of another or both. In this context, guardian is the one that applies. ALMAWLA in this context means the guardian
waniAAma: and best of/ including best of
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. NiAAMA is derived from the root N-Ain-M and it means soft in the concrete sense. In abstract, it means anything that can be understood as soft as in soft to touch and soft in treatment and soft life as in a life that does not have much hardship. NiAAMA is an expression of greatness about an entity or praise.
Alnnaseeru: supporter/ helper
Note: the root is N-Sad-R and it means aid or support or backing whether in need or not. NASEER means aider or supporter or helper.

Salaam all and have a great day

Hussein

salaam akhee

i couldn't find the ayah from 22:75 on your blog so i have no choice but to ask here

Sahih International: And there is nothing concealed within the heaven and the earth except that it is in a clear Register.

there is some strange "logic" which people are using

it is claimed that the qalam wrote everything in the register

then it is claimed that the qalam is a conscious thing being aware of what it wrote

i quote :

Was Al Qalam for a brief moment of time partner in Ilm of Allah?

quote:
If Tawheed wasn't contradicted with Al Qalam having knowledge of all ghayb for atleast a brief period of time then how can Prophet having knowledge of actions of jinn and mankind with hearing/seeing [bi iznillahi ta'ala] be Shirk with such limited knowledge? This knowledge wasn't even is quater, a fraction of what al-qalam wrote in lawh al mafooz.

from the ayah is there any idea that the written register was written by "the pen" which was conscious of what it wrote?

Wa Alaikum Assalam,

I have not yet reached that Aya but when I looked at 22:75 I did not see a register in it however. However, The Qur'an does not mention anything about the nature of the Qalam or the Law Mahfooth and whether they are conscious of what is in them and what is not. The Qur'an also does mention that the time of the hour is always the sole knowledge of Allah alone. also they will not have the knowledge of Allah that preceded their existance in anycase

However, if Allah lets an entity receive some of His knolwedge then it is totally Allah's area and that is not a form of Shirk. Shirk is when an entity assumes itself or is assumed by us humans as worthy of worship in the sense we make Dua for it, pray for it, as help from it, love it beyond the love of Allah and so on.

I hope this answers your question and take care brother

Son! You will not get the taste of the reality of faith until you know that what has come to you could not miss you, and that what has missed you could not come to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: The first thing Allah created was the pen. He said to it: Write. It asked: What should I write, my Lord? He said: Write what was decreed about everything till the Last Hour comes. Son! I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say : He who dies on something other than this does not belong to me.

salaam brother

1. your wrote :
However, The Qur'an does not mention anything about the nature of the Qalam or the Law Mahfooth and whether they are conscious of what is in them and what is not.
end quote

do you agree that the narration i quoted above does not imply that what "the pen" writes; it is conscious of it in the sense of seeing the events?

2. is it also possible that it is simply writing and emphasis is on record of unseen without the pen having any idea of what it writes?

hussein said...

Wa Alaikum Assalam,

I certainly agree with the narration and I try to take it at face value of the pen doing what it was ordered to do in documentation. However, I would hesitate to speculate on it's nature or knowledge or lack of knowledge unless the Qur'an or the hadeeth inform us of that information. However we have to also keep in mind is that this is a record of what is going to happen, not a record of what could have happened if Allah did this or that. That kind of knowledge which is vase, is still the sole knowledge of Allah. Also, the Qur'an also says that the knowledge of the time of the hour is the sole knowledge of Allah. So, the knowledge of the pen, whether conscious or unconscious is a drop in the great sea of Allah's knowledge. Also as I said yesterday that the knowledge or lack of knowledge does not make the creature divine it is how we related to it or whether we worship it or not.

I hope this helps a little and take care brother
