1:2 الحمد لله رب العالمين

Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena

The Aya says:

“The praise belongs to the GOD, Nurturer/ Sustainer of all.

My personal note:
This is very important since the first phrase starts with Praise. It says that The Praise is GOD’s. He is the one that praises the ones that are worthy of praise.

Translation of thetransliterated words:
Alhamdu: The praise

Lillahi: To the GOD/belongs to the GOD

Rabbi: Nurturer/Sustainer (of).
Note: This is another very interesting word. RABB in Arabic is used most often to mean GOD. However it can also mean Raiser (the one that helps us grow in any sense of the word). This meaning is very consistent with the concept of GOD in Islam. It is also consistent with the Hebrew meaning of Rabbi as teacher (He/she helps us grow). Therefore I used the word nurturer/sustainer. It is not exactly the same but it comes close.

alAAalameena: The Worlds/ everything and everyone/all
AAalameen is a derivative of the word Ain-L-M which comes from Knowledge or knowing. Therefore al AAalameen is the plural of AAaLAM and that word means known. This makes Al AAaLAMEEN meaan The knowns, in the most concrete form. Since GOD knows everyone and everything, then THE KNOWNS are Everyone and Everything, basically all.
