وَإِذْ زَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ وَقَالَ لاَ غَالِبَ لَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَإِنِّي جَارٌ لَّكُمْ فَلَمَّا تَرَاءتِ الْفِئَتَانِ نَكَصَ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِّنكُمْ إِنِّي أَرَى مَا لاَ تَرَوْنَ إِنِّيَ أَخَافُ اللّهَ وَاللّهُ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

Waith zayyana lahumu alshshaytanu aAAmalahum waqala la ghaliba lakumu alyawma mina alnnasi wainnee jarun lakum falamma taraati alfiatani nakasa AAala AAaqibayhi waqala innee bareeon minkum innee ara ma la tarawna innee akhafu Allaha waAllahu shadeedu alAAiqabi
The Aya says:
And as Satan adorned for them their actions and he said no one of the people will defeat you today and I am your protector. So, when the two groups saw each other he reneged stumbling backwards. He said “I dissociate from you. I see what you do not see. I fear Allah and Allah is severe in the consequence”.
My personal note:
This is a lesson to anyone that follows the direction of Satan in that he gives false promises then he leaves the human to fend for himself/ herself in a losing situation. So better for the human to be at peace with Allah and to return to Allah for the door towards coming back to Allah is always open.
Translation of the transliterated words:

Waith: and as
Zayyana: he cloaked/ he made look pretty/ he ornamented
Note: the root is Z-Y-N and it means what one puts on to add beauty to the look. It is used to cover clothes, jewelry and make up. For the land, it is the grass and the flowers. ZAYYANA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. وَلاَ تَكُونُواْ كَالَّذِينَ خَرَجُواْ مِن دِيَارِهِم بَطَرًا وَرِئَاء النَّاسِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَاللّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ
Wala takoonoo kaallatheena kharajoo min diyarihim bataran wariaa alnnasi wayasuddoona AAan sabeeli Allahi waAllahu bima yaAAmaloona muheetun
The Aya says:
And do not be like those who left their homes (for battle) in arrogant disdain and showing off to the people, and they block Allah’s path, while Allah is surrounding what they do.
My personal note:
The Aya contrasts that rejecters main reason for battle is arrogance and disdain and to show off and to block Allah’s path. It says that Allah is well aware of it and in control of the situation that such reason for battle will never succeed and therefore it prohibits muslims from fighting for the above reasons.

The Aya says:
And obey Allah and His messenger and do not have discord then you feel and you lose your vigor and be deliberate/ self-restrained. Indeed, Allah supports the self- restrained.
My personal note:

I translated the term Sabireen as seliberate and that is in my understanding the term Sabireen applies to those who are not reactionary and are deliberate in their actions. Therefore their actions are not a product of a reaction but they occur after deliberation and study and self restraint.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha laqeetum fiatan faothbutoo waothkuroo Allaha katheeran laAAallakum tuflihoona
The Aya says:
O you who have attained faith if you met a group then stay steadfast and remember and mention Allah a lot in the hope that you succeed.
My personal note:
The Aya presents that if the people of faith were challenged by an opposing group whether for battle, harassment or whatever then the order is to stay steadfast and to make sure that they remember and remind themselves of Allah for He is eventually the secret for success.

Translation of the transliterated words:

Ya ayyuha: O you

Amanoo: made themselves safe/ attained faith
Note: the root is Hamza-M-N and it means safe or safety. AMANOO is an action that is derived from the root and that is completed. Waith yureekumoohum ithi iltaqaytum fee aAAyunikum qaleelan wayuqallilukum fee aAAyunihim liyaqdiya Allahu amran kana mafAAoolan waila Allahi turjaAAu alomooru
The Aya says:
And as He shows them to you (plural) as you met, in your eyes a few and he makes you look few in their eyes, in order that Allah pass what is to be done. And to Allah all matters return.
My personal note:
The Aya continues that for some reason Allah made both groups look much smaller in the eye of the other. Perhaps this decreases the anxiety in the mind of the Muslim group and makes the other feel complacent.

The Aya says:
