10:81

فَلَمَّآ أَلْقَواْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ مَا جِئْتُمْ بِهِ ٱلسِّحْرُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَيُبْطِلُهُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لاَ يُصْلِحُ عَمَلَ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ

 

falammā alqaw qāla mūsā mā ji`tum bihi l-si`ru inna l-laha sayub`iluhu inna l-laha lā yu`liu ʿamala l-muf`sidīna

The Aya says:

So when the cast, Moses said: “What you brought of magic, indeed Allah will render it null.  Indeed Allah does not abet the work of those who do harm”

 

My personal note:

The Aya brings an important principle that Allah never supports or aids the work of those who do harm or the work that leads to harm.  He does support the good work.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

falammā: So when

alqaw: they cast

Note:  the root is L-Qaf-Y and it means receiving as a concept which would be understood more specifically according to the sentence. Concrete uses of the word are a female that gets pregnant easily, therefore she received the sperm well. It is also used for the birds that hunt because they receive the prey easily and so forth.  ALQAW is an action that is completed.  It means: the action of casting happened by the subject. 

Qāla: He said / he responded

Note: QALA is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying in any way possible. QALA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of saying happened by the subject (third person singular). This, in turn means: he said or responded or communicated. 

 

Mūsā: Moses

 

Mā: what

ji`tum: you came/ you brought

Note: JI’TUM is derived from the root t J-Y-Hamza and it means coming. One concrete word that is derived from this word is the pool where the rain water comes. JI’TUM is an action that is completed in a question form and that is derived from the root. It means :the action of coming of bringing happened by the subject (second person plural)

 

Bihi: with it/ it

Note: BI in this context is a tool to make an object to the previous verb that does not have an object.  HI means him or it and points to magic.

l-si`ru: the magic

Note: ALSSIHRU is derived from the root S-Ha-R and it means to make things look other than what they are and that includes deception and magic as well. SAHAR is one of the concrete terms and it points to the predawn time. The relationship between magic and that time may be because one can see things as other than what they really are in that time.  ALSSIHRU is the magic

 

Inna: indeed

l-laha: Allah

sayub`iluhu: Will make it null/ obsolete

Note:  SAYUBTILUHU is derived from the root B-TTa-L and it means null or void or naught or false as in of no consequence. SAYUBTILUHU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making the object (HU=him/ it and points to magic) null and void will happen by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah)

Inna: indeed

l-laha: Allah

lā yu`liu: does not abet/ does not support

Note: LA is for negation of what comes next.  YUSLIHU is derived from the root Sad-L-Ha and it means becoming helpful or useful in a good direction. This means mainly: becoming one of benefit as in benefiting oneself and others. Included in this meaning is becoming fixed after having been broken.  YUSLIHU is an action that is happening or will be happening.  It means: the action of making the object (AAaMALA- action of) good or  beneficial or helpful or supported is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah)

ʿamala: action of

Note: the root is Ain-M-L and it means doing or work. AMALA means action or work of.

 

l-muf`sidīna:  the ones who make harm/ opposite of benefit/ the corrupt

Note: ALMUFSIDEENA is derived from the root MUFSIDEEN, the root F-S-D and it means becoming damaged for the action and damage for nouns. It is used for damage or harm or lack of benefit. MUFSIDEENA means causing damage or harm or lack of benefit.
