Salaam all,

This is 4:42
يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَعَصَوُاْ الرَّسُولَ لَوْ تُسَوَّى بِهِمُ الأَرْضُ وَلاَ يَكْتُمُونَ اللّهَ حَدِيثًا
Yawmaithin yawaddu allatheena kafaroo waAAasawoo alrrasoola law tusawwa bihimu alardu wala yaktumoona Allaha hadeethan

The Aya says:
That day, the ones who rejected including disobeyed the envoy (of God) will wish that the earth will be leveled by them, and they will not suppress Allah’s saying /action.

My personal note:
The law is a conditional which carries skepticism in it often. Therefore, the Aya carries that they will wish that the earth will be leveled by them, as in they become earth, but the message is that will not happen.

The end of the Aya “La yaktumoon Allah Hadeethan” has a width of meanings. Hadeethan means conceptually happening, which can cover saying and actions and news of the entity. LA YAKTUMOONA Allaha Hadeethan carries the dual meaning of:

1- They do not suppress the happenings of Allah, as His sayings, actions and news, from others.
2- They do not suppress their own happenings, as sayings actions and news, from Allah.

Both are correct and are covered by the sentence. That is part of the depth of the Qur’an, the richness and width of meanings within it’s sentences.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Yawmaithin: that day/ day when
Note: the root is Y-W-M and it means day. YAWM means a day and it spans a day and night cycle. YAWMA means day of. ITHIN means then. YAWMAITHIN then takes the meaning of day when, on that day.
Yawaddu: they love
Note: the root is W-D-D and it means proper love. This means that this love is correct in all it’s angles and not placed in the wrong place. YAWADDU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of loving is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular or plural pointing to Allatheena= those who)
Allatheena: those who
Kafaroo: rejected/ discarded (the message or God).
Note: the root is K-F-R and it means cover or bury in the ground, as in put the seed in the ground and cover it. This is then used conceptually for many purposes as in discarding and rejecting as well as burying. KAFARO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of rejection or discarding of the object (not declared, but understood from the context to point to God and/or the message) happened by the subject (third person plural).
waAAasawoo: and disobeyed/including disobeyed
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. AAaSAWOO is derived from the root Ain-Sad-Y and it means to go against order/to resist an order, for the verb and the action for the noun. The concrete word is Stick and Staff. The relationship to the above abstract meaning is the fact that the Stick is rigid and unbending, as well as the fact the Stick got detached from the tree. AAaSAWOO is an action that is completed. Alrrasoola: the messenger/ the envoy
Note: ALRRASOOLA is derived from the root R-S-L and it means to envoy someone or a group of people or animals. The concrete word is RASL and it means a group of people or animals that were sent by their owners or senders. ALRRASOOLA means the envoy or the messenger.
Law: skeptical if/if
Note: LAW means if or a conditional statement with a background of skepticism that the condition did not or will not happen or at least not very likely to happen.
Tusawwa: she was leveled
Note: the root is S-W-Y and it means balance or equality. Conceptually, it applies to leveling something and according to the context of the situation. TUSAWWA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making the object leveled (Al Ardu= the earth) is being made to happen or will be made to happen, by an undeclared subject.
Bihimu: in them/ by them/ with them
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If is the object of the action then it makes it stronger. HIMU means them.
Alardu: the earth/ the land
Note: ALARDU is derived from the root Hamza-R-Dhad and it means earth or land. ALARDU is the earth/ the land.
Wala: and not
Yaktumoona: they suppress/ they hide
Note: YAKTUMOONA is derived from the root K-T-M and it means suppressing something. Concrete word is for a vine type of plant that cannot rise and stand on it’s own, therefore suppressed to the ground. Conceptually, it is used for suppressing a matter or hiding it. YAKTUMOONA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of suppressing or hiding the object (ALLAHA hadeethan= speech or news of Allah) is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).
Allaha: Allah
Hadeethan: happening/ saying/ news/ actions
Note: The root is Ha-D-TH and it means to happen for the verb and happening for the noun. This is conceptually then extended to many different understandings that are linked to the context. They carry the meanings of happenings as news, or sayings or new developments or all, as long as the context of the sentence allows it. HADEETHAN here carries the conceptual meanings of happening, which covers sayings and actions of Allah or of people towards Allah.

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِن كُلِّ أمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَـؤُلاء شَهِيدًا
Fakayfa itha jina min kulli ommatin bishaheedin wajina bika AAala haolai shaheedan

The Aya says:
So, how about if/when we came, from every nation, with a witness, and we came with you (singular) upon those, a witness.

My personal note:
The word ITHA is a conditional term that relates to time. Therefore it often carries a meaning that mixes if and when together.

The Aya is telling us that on the Day of Judgment God will bring a witness from every nation to witness on that nation. It tells the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that he will witness on “those”. " Those" may be pointing to:
1- The ones he came to and to whom he gave his message, believer or non believer.
2- Everyone who received his message or claims to be following his message.

Both meanings are possible and applicable. For his contemporaries, he would witness on how they responded, as for the ones who claimed following him, then he can witness whether what they claimed he ordered was actually ordered or not by him.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Fakayfa: then how/ how about
Itha: if/when
Jina: We brought/ we came
Note: the root is J-Y-Hamza and it means coming. One concrete word that is derived from this word is the pool where the rain water comes. JINA is an action that is completed and that is derived from the root. It means that the action of coming happened by the subject (first person plural pointing to God or God and angels).
Min: from
Kulli: every/ each
Note: the root is K-L-L and it means the parts put together. This is the concrete and it means all or every or each. KULL means each or every.
Ommatin: nation
Note: the root is Hamza-M-M and it means mother or sources/origin if said as UMM and destination if said as AMM. OMMA are conceptually people of the same mother or source and possibly of the same destination. The word, in Arabic is used to mean nation, but it can apply to any group that may share the same goal or origin or both.

Bishaheedin: with a witness/ by a witness
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If is the object of the action then it makes it stronger. In here the action is making become safe. SHAHEED is derived from the root SH-H-D and it means witnessing of truth and it also denotes that the witness knows very well what he or she is witnessing about. The concrete meaning is the honey mixed with wax therefore the wax is the witness of the truth that the honey is the honey. Another concrete meaning is the baby that was just born and is covered with a membrane. In both, there is close association which is proof or witness of the fact. SHAHEED is a witness

إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ وَإِن تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَاعِفْهَا وَيُؤْتِ مِن لَّدُنْهُ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
Inna Allaha la yathlimu mithqala tharratin wain taku hasanatan yudaAAifha wayuti min ladunhu ajran AAatheeman

The Aya says:
Indeed, Allah does not do injustice to measure of an atom. And if it happens to be act of goodness, He multiplies it, and gives from His presence, great reward.

My personal note:
The word YATHLIMU carries the meaning of darkness and often, decision in darkness, or displacing something out of place. It takes the meaning of injustice because injustice is a decision in darkness and displacing things out of place. Here, God tells us that even the measure of the atom will be put in it’s rightful right place. This applies to everything including our deeds. It further tells us about the generosity of God. It tells us that He multiplies our acts of goodness from His grace.

Translation of the transliterated words:

Note: the root is THA-L-M and it means darkness in the most concrete form. This word also takes the meaning of misplacing right from wrong and transgression or injustice since injustice is displacing right from wrong and a decision made in darkness. YATHLIMU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of injustice of displacement of the object (mithqal= weight of) is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to God).
Mithqala: weight of
Note: The root is TH-Qaf-L and it means weight or weighty as in heavy weight at times. Conceptually, it is used for any weight or heaviness in responsibility and so on. MITHQALA is measure of weight or weight of in here.
Tharratin: an atom/ tiniest entity
Note: the root is TH-R-R and it means in concrete: the smallest entities that one pinches with his hands or fingers and disperses, very much as the grains of salt or sand and so on. Conceptually, this word is used to mean offspring, but also the tiniest entities as dust particles or atoms and so on. THARRATIN is the tiniest entity or an atom.
Wain: and if
Taku: it be
Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being. TAKU is an action that is being or will be completed. It means: the action of being is happening or will be happening by the subject (third personal singular). This in turn means: He or it be or He or it happens to be
Hasanatan: an act of goodness/ beauty
Note: the root is Ha-S-N and it means beauty and goodness in all the aspects of beauty and goodness. HASANATAN is an act of goodness or beauty.
yudaAAifha: He makes her multiplied
Note: the root is Dhad-Ain-F and it means in concrete, when the thing is folded upon itself, therefore giving two potential meanings for the derivatives, one is weakness, since the weak gets folded and the other is multiplication since the fold one object becomes two which is the context of this sentence. YUDaAAiFHA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making the object (HA= her and points to the act of goodness) multiplied is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to God).
Wayuti: and He makes come/ and He gives
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. YUTI is derived from the root Hamza-T-Y and it means in concrete the water that comes from the rain of another land. In a conceptual manner, it means the coming of something or someone with many of it’s implications. YUTI is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making come or giving is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to H=God).

Note: LADUN means at and it points to place or time or others. HU means him which points to Allah. LADUNHU means from Him in general or from His.

AAatheeman: great
Note: the root is Ain-TH-M and it means great/hard/strong. The concrete word is AAaTHM and that is the bones or the hard/strong/firm core of things. AAaTHEEM means great.

وَمَاذَا عَلَيْهِمْ لَوْ آمَنُواْ بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَأَنفَقُواْ مِمَّا رَزَقَهُمُ اللّهُ وَكَانَ اللّهُ بِهِم عَلِيمًا
Wamatha AAalayhim law amanoo biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri waanfaqoo mimma razaqahumu Allahu wakana Allahu bihim AAaleeman

The aya says:
And what (is) upon them had they made themselves safe in Allah and the Day of Judgment, and spent of what Allah provided them?! And Allah happened to be knowledgeable of them.

My personal note:
The Aya responds to those who are stingy or those who spend just for show. It says that had they spent because of safety and trust in Allah, then it would have been much better for them and would not have been a burden. They burdened themselves because of their lack of safety and trust in Allah.

May God increase our trust and safety in Him, so that we live in His mercy guided by His guidance.

وَالَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ رِئَـاء النَّاسِ وَلاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَلاَ بِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَمَن يَكُنِ الشَّيْطَانُ لَهُ قَرِينًا فَسَاء قِرِينًا
Waallatheena yunfiqoona amwalahum riaa alnnasi wala yuminoona biAllahi wala bialyawmi alakhiri waman yakuni alshshaytanu lahu qareenan fasaa qareenan

The Aya says:

And those who spend their money showing the people and they do not make themselves safe in Allah and in the Day of Judgment. And whoever happens to have Satan as his close associate, then worse of associates.

My personal note:
This Aya continues the same theme. In the previous Aya, it mentions the people who fail to share of what God gave them. Here, it mentions negatively those who spend their money, but only to show to the people.

The Aya then makes clear that we spend money to those who needed out of our safety in Allah and in the Day of Judgment. So, all our charitable works will need to be in the sake of Allah and not the people.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Waallatheena: and those who

Note: the root is N-F-Qaf and it means tunnel in the concrete sense. This is then used to mean anything that is tunneled from one place to another as in hiding your thoughts or presenting different than the ones that you hold. Another is tunneling you money to another destination as in giving some of your money to charity or so forth. Here, it is used for the tunneling of the money or the spending it for charity. YUNFIQOONA is an action that is derived from the root and that is being completed or will be completed. It means the action of making tunneling or spending is happening or will be occurring by the subject (third person plural).
Amwalahum: their money/ belongings
Note: the root is M-W-L and it means what a person owns of gold and silver. This is used to mean anything owned or just money. AMWALIAmeans moneys of. HUM means them.
Riaa: Showing/ making see
Note: the root R-Hamza-Y and it means viewing or seeing. RIAA means showing or making others see.
Alnnasi: the people/ the society
Note: ALNNASI is derived from the root Hamza-N-S and it means socializing. ALNNAS are the society/the people.
Wala: and not
Yuminoona: they make themselves safe/ they trust
Note: the root Hamza-M-N and it means safety. Conceptually, it can also be extended to trust as well, because we feel safe in the entity we trust. YUMINOONA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of making oneself safe is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).
biAllahi: in Allah
Note: Bi denotes that what comes after is a tool and/or an object or an association with an action that was mentioned. If is the object of the action then it makes it stronger. In here the action is making become safe. ALLAH is Allah.

Bialyawmi: in the day

Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being. YAKUNI is an action that is being completed or will be completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of being is happening or will be happening by the subject (third personal singular). This in turn means: He happens to be
Alshshaytanu: Satan/ the one that is displaced from God’s mercy and works on displacing others.
Note: the root is SH-Ta-N and it means in one of the concrete meanings the long rope and in another the long rope at the well that one uses to get the bucket out of the water. The term is used to mean far and away (in all the planes of thought) as the long rope and it is also used for displacement or pulling away, as a parallel to the rope that pulls the bucked out of the water. ALSHAITAN is the one who is far or away (from God’s mercy) and who works at pulling others away through his long “rope”. It is the word used from Satan.
Lahu: to him
Qareenan: close associate
Note: the root is Qaf-R-N and it means in concrete horn of the animal. Conceptually, it is used for anything that shares aspects of the horns as it fits in the context. QAREENAN here means close associate. This is because the one horn is always closely associated with the horn on top of the head.
Fasaa: so became bad/ hated/ugly/worse
Note: FA means then or so or therefore. SAA is derived from the root S-Y-Hamza and it means hated word or deed or feeling. It can also mean ugly or vulnerable. All the meanings are linked somehow by one concept. This word then means different things according to the plane of thought that is being talked about. SAA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of ugliness, badness, hatedness happened by the subject (third person singular)
Qareenan: close associate
Note: the root is Qaf-R-N and it means in concrete horn of the animal. Conceptually, it is used for anything that shares aspects of the horns as it fits in the context. QAREENAN here means close associate. This is because the one horn is always closely associated with the horn on top of the head.
