Salaam all,

Walaqad kuththibat rusulun min qablika fasabaroo AAala ma kuththiboo waoothoo hatta atahum nasruna wala mubaddila likalimati Allahi walaqad jaaka min nabai almursaleena

The Aya says:
And indeed, envoys were declared untrue before you (O Muhammad), so they persevered above what they were declared untrue, and hurt until our backing came to them. And no changer to Allah’s statements, and came to you (singular) of the news of the envoys.

My personal note:
This aya is giving solace to the prophet as he was dealing with the constant denial of his people. This Sura, different from the previous Suras that I have already translated, came in Mecca and so it is dealing with the issues of rejection that the prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) was dealing with.

I translated SABAROO as persevered which is correct, but the word has also the meaning of self restraint and patience and all apply. The role of self restraint here is in holding himself from loosing his cool or his trust in God or even from acting in a reactive manner without much thought or contemplation about it.

The term, no changer to Allah’s statements come often in the Qur’an. It is often coming in relation to Allah’s backing of His messengers and His followers and therefore the reminder at the end of the Aya of the news of the previous messengers and how Allah backed them all. It is a reassurance of Allah’s support even when people are being tested in the most difficult way.

Translation of the transliterated:

Walaqad: and indeed
Kuththibat: Were declared untruthful
Note: K-TH-B and it means a untrue. Conceptually, it can be extended at times to mean a lie, although the core of the meaning is untruth, whether it is a lie or not, conscious or not. KUTHTHIBAT is an action that is completed. It means: the action of making an object (RUSULUN= messengers/ envoys) untrue happened by an undeclared subject.

rusulun: messengers/ envoys
Note: RUSULUN is derived from the root R-S-L and it means to envoy someone or a group of people or animals. The concrete word is RASL and it means a group of people or animals that were sent by their owners or senders. RUSULIN means messengers of and is the plural of Rasul who is the one that is sent and is used to mean the messenger because he was sent by the sender to the receiver.
Min: from
qablika: before you (singular pointing to Muhammad pbuh)
Note: the root Qaf-B-L and it means front. This is then carried in time or space or any plain of thought. If it is in time, then front means before, while place would be in front. It is used to mean acceptance and reception since we receive and accept using our fronts. QABLI here is front in time and that is before of. KA means singular you and points to Muhammad (pbuh).

Fasabaroo: so they were patient/ so they persevered/ so they were self restrained
Note: FA means therefore or so or then. SABAROO is derived from the root Sad-B-R and it means jail or prison. The word is used to mean patience and restraint at the same time, since both are about imprisoning our negative emotions, thoughts, and the push to act uninhibited. SABAROO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of being patient or self restrained happened by the subject (third person plural).
AAala ma: upon what/ above what
kuththiboo: they were declared untruthful
Note: K-TH-B and it means a untrue. Conceptually, it can be extended at times to mean a lie, although the core of the meaning is untruth, whether it is a lie or not, conscious or not. KUTHTHIBOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of making an object (third person plural pointing to the messengers) untrue happened by an undeclared subject.
Waoothoo: and were harmed/ including hurt
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. OOTHOO is derived from the root Hamza-TH-Y and it means mild harm or hurt in all it’s forms, physical and emotional and so forth. One concrete word is the waves or the wake of the sea that is a nuisance or mild harm, but rarely dangerous. OOTHOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of harm or hurt happened by an undeclared subject to the object (third person plural).
Hatta: until when

Atahum: came to them
Note: ATAHUM is derived from the root Hamza-T-Y and it means in concrete the water that comes from the rain of another land. In a conceptual manner, it means the coming of something or someone with many of it’s implications. ATA is an action that was completed. It means: the action of coming happened by the subject (Nasruna=our aid/victory)to the object (hum= them).
Nasruna: our support/aid/ backing
Note: the root is N-Sad-R and it means aid or support or backing whether in need or not. NASRUNA means our backing.

Wala: and not/ and there is not
Mubaddila: changer/ alterer
Note: the root is B-D-L and it means exchanging and that is to alter or change the nature or attribute of something or exchange something for something else. MUBADDIL is the entity that changes or alters or exchanges what comes next..
Likalimati: of Statements of
Note: Li means to or of. KALIMAT is derived from the root root K-L-M and it means wound or opening of the skin and that is the concrete word. It is also used to mean words or statements because those are the products of the opening of the mouth, which is an opening of the skin. Here it is used for word or statement. KALIMATI are the words or statements of.

Allahi: Allah
Walaqad: and indeed
Jaaka: came to you (singular)
Note: the root is J-Y-Hamza and it means coming. One concrete word that is derived from this word is the pool where the rain water comes. JAA is an action that is completed and that is derived from the root. It means that the action of coming happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to ALHAQQI= the binding truth, coming up) to the object (KA=singular you)
Min: of
Nabai: news of/ information regarding
Note: the root is N-B-Hamza and it means news or informing since the news are meant to inform. NABAI means: news of or information regarding.

Almursaleena: the ones who were sent/ envoyed
Note: . ALMURSALEEN is derived from the root R-S-L and it means to envoy someone or a group of people or animals. The concrete word is RASL and it means a group of people or animals that were sent by their owners or senders. ALMURSALEEN means the ones who were sent or envoyed.

Salaam all and have a great day.

Hussein
