fakafā bil-lahi shahīdan baynanā wabaynakum in kunnā ʿan ʿibādatikum laghāfilīna
So
Allah is sufficient as a witness between us and you if we were unaware of your
worship

personal note:
This
Aya continues the previous statement and that the idols that people worshiped
were unaware of the worship and that is perfectly appropriate for they were
mostly inanimate objects.

Witness/ testifying
Note:
the root is SH-H-D and it means witnessing of truth and it also denotes that
the witness knows very well what he or she is witnessing about. The concrete
meaning is the honey mixed with wax therefore the wax is the witness of the
truth that the honey is the honey. Another concrete meaning is the baby that
was just born and is covered with a membrane. In both, there is close
association which is proof or witness of the fact. SHAHIDAN means witnessing or
testifying.

Note:
the root is K-W-N and it means being.
KUNNA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It
means: the action of being happened by the subject (first personal
plural). This in turn means: We were/ we
happened to be.
ʿan: from / away from
ʿibādatikum: your worship
Note: iBADATI is derived from the root Ain-B-D and it means slave or servant. The road that is MUABBAD is the road that is
well trodden and made easy to walk or drive on and so on. Conceptually, aAABD is an entity that is easy
to manage and does smooth sailing either by it’s own or by being subject to
pressure from above. It is used for
slave or servant or anyone who is humbled for love or devotion or by the sheer
power of the other entity. IBADATI means
worship of. KUM means plural you.
Laghāfilīna: indeed
unaware/ distracted
Note: LA is for
emphasis of what comes after. GHAFLINA
is derived from the root GHain-F-L and it means not paying attention. GHAFILINA means
unaware of distracted or not paying attention.
