10:70

 مَتَاعٌ فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ ثُمَّ نُذِيقُهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلشَّدِيدَ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكْفُرُونَ

 

matāʿun fī l-dun`yā thumma ilaynā marjiʿuhum thumma nudhīquhumu l-ʿadhāba l-shadīda bimā kānū yakfurūna

 

The Aya says:

Fulfillment of goals in this life, later on their return is towards us then we make them taste the tough suffering because of what they used to reject.

 

My personal note:

The Aya repeats a very important message of the Qur’an that this life fulfills goals and roles and needs and wants.  However the next life is what matters since this life is a short term goal while the next is the long term goal.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

matāʿun: fulfillment of role

Note: the root M-T-Ain and it means when the wine becomes very red or when the rope becomes tight. This is the concrete and the abstract gives the meaning of something or someone reaching where it needs to reach within the limits of time, space, etc. MATaAAaN is the resources or provisions, that help the person reach his or her needs within limits.

Fī: in/ on

l-dun`yā: the near/ the nearer/ this life

Note: the root is D-N-W and it means nearness or nearing. ALDUNYA means the near. In this case, it points to this life that we are living in as the near.   ALDDUNYA is also this life that we are living.  ALHAYATI ALDDUNYA means this life.

 

Thumma: then/ later on

Ilaynā: to us/ towards us

marjiʿuhum: their return

Note: the root is R-J-Ain and it means returning. MARJiAAu is place and time of the return or just the return at a designated place or time of/ HUM means them

 

Thumma: then/ later on

Nudhīquhumu: We make them taste

Note:  the root is TH-W-Qaf and it means taste in all it’s aspects. In a conceptual fashion, it is the sensation.   NUTHEEQU is an action that is being completed or will be completed.  It means the action of making the object (HUM=them) taste or experience another object (ALAAaTHABA= the suffering) is happening or will be happening by the subject (first person plural).

 

l-ʿadhāba: the suffering

Note: ALAAaTHAB is derived from the root Ain-TH-B and it means an easy to swallow food or drink. ALAAaTHAB is what makes one not take an easy to swallow food or drink. That is suffering.

 

l-shadīda: the hard/ the rough


Note: The root is SH-D-D and it means tightening the rope for the action and tight for the description. Conceptually, The “tight” can also extend the meaning to hard and strong and so forth. SHADEED means tight or hard or severe.

bima: by what/ because of what

Note: BI signifies an attachment or close linkage between what is before and what is after it.  In a Verbal sentence it can mean attachment to the action or to the subject as it does the action.  This attachment can then signify many things according to the verb and to the sentence and so on.  In this sentence it signifies causation.

 

kano: they were/ they used to

Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being.  KANOO is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of being happened by the subject (third personal plural).  This in turn means: they were/ they happened to be.

 

Yakfuroona: to reject

Note: the root is K-F-R and it means cover or bury in the ground, as in put the seed in the ground and cover it.  This is then used conceptually for many purposes as in discarding and rejecting as well as burying.  YAKFUROONA is an action that is being completed or will be completed.  It means: the action of rejection or discarding of the object (not declared, but understood from the context to point to God and/or the message) is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural).

 قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ لاَ يُفْلِحُونَ

 

qul inna alladhīna yaftarūna ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba lā yuf`liūna

 

The Aya says:

Say (O Muhammad):  Indeed those who attribute falsehood to Allah do not lead to success.

 

My personal note:

The Aya is a reassurance that falsehood never succeeds and it is a matter of time before it is exposed.

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

qul: : say/ respond

Note: QUL is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying in any way possible. QUL is a demand or request addressed to a singular.  It means: say or respond. 

 

Inna: indeed

Alladhīna: those who

Yaftarūna: concoct/ makeup

Note: the root is F-R-W or F-R-Y and it means the fur of the animal or the scalp that is normally covered with hair. This word is used when people are concocting things and making things up that are not true. It could be related to the action of cutting the skin apart or making things up as in making a dress out of the skin and so forth. YAFTAROON is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of concocting or making up untruths is or will be made to happen by the subject (third person plural). 

Alā: upon

l-lahi: Allah

l-kadhiba: the untruth/ the falsehood

Note:  KATHIB is derived from the root K-TH-B and it means a untrue.  Conceptually, it can be extended at times to mean a lie, although the core of the meaning is untruth, whether it is a lie or not, conscious or not.  ALKATHIB means untruth or falsehood.

 

lā yuf`liūna: they do not succeed/they do not lead to success

Note: LA is for negation of what follows.  YUFLIHOON is derived from the root F-L-Ha and it means to plow the land. This is also considered as a cause for one to have the better harvest. YUFLIHOON is an action that is being completed or will be completed. This verb means literally, make themselves cause better harvest. This, in turn means make themselves succeed but also open the door for others to succeed.

 قَالُواْ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ وَلَداً سُبْحَانَهُ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِيُّ لَهُ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰت وَمَا فِي ٱلأَرْضِ إِنْ عِندَكُمْ مِّن سُلْطَانٍ بِهَـٰذَآ أَتقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ

 

qālū ittakhadha l-lahu waladan sub`ānahu huwa l-ghaniyu lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-ari in ʿindakum min sul`ānin bihādhā ataqūlūna ʿalā l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūna

 

The Aya says:

They claimed that Allah acquired a son.  Far beneath him.  He is the one without need.  To Him belongs what is in the heaven and what is in/on the earth.  Do you with you convincing proof of this?! Are you claiming without knowledge?

 

My personal note:

The Aya attacks vehemently the claim that Allah had a son or any child.  The Aya ends up with important advice in this and in any argument.  We need convincing proof to make a claim.  Also we need to think twice when we claim without knowledge of facts, unless we have strong circumstantial evidence.  Even then this evidence will be trumped by facts and we should accept to change position once that happens.

 

Translation of transliterated words:

qālū: they said/ they claimed

Note: QALOO is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying in any way possible. QALOO is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of saying happened by the subject (third person plural). This, in turn means: they said or claimed. 

 

Ittakhadha: He took to himself/ He obtained

Note: ITTAKHATHA is derived from the root Hamza-KH-TH and it means taking. ITTAKHATHA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of taking the object (WALDAN= a child) happened by the subject (third person singular).

l-lahu: Allah

waladan: a child/ a son

Note: The root is W-L-D and it means giving birth or conceiving. WALADAN is the product of giving birth and that is a child or a son.

sub`ānahu: He is above that/ He is far above it

huwa: He

l-ghaniyu: the rich/ the one without need

Note: the root is Ghain-N-Y and it means freedom from need in any of it’s forms. The word is used to mean rich, because the rich has less needs or no financial need or no need for assistance. ALGHANIYY is the one whose needs are met/ or has no needs/ rich and so on.

Lahu: to Him belongs

Mā: what

Fī: in/ on

l-samāwāti: The heavens/the aboves

Note: the root is S-M-W and it means rising. This word is used to mean many things that are related to that meaning. One of the meanings is name because when a person’s name is called, he or she would rise and respond.  ALSSAMAWATI are the aboves or what are above, that is the skies or the heavens or any entity from the atmosphere to beyond that.

 

Wamā: and what

Fī: in/ on

l-ari: the earth/ the land

Note: ALARDI is derived from the root Hamza-R-Dhad and it means earth or land.  ALARDI is the earth/ the land.

 

in ʿindakum: do you (plural) happen to have/ available to you (plural)

min: of/ from

sul`ānin: proof/ power/ incontestable proot

Note: the root is S-L-TTA and it means power that can overcome obstacles. As a concept it can be extended to the power that is physical, mental, spiritual and power of argument and proof. It also could mean overpowering. SULTAN means power and in this context, it is the power of proof or the overpowering proof. It can be extended to license for punishment and so on.

Bihādhā: of that

Ataqūlūna: do you (plural) say?!/ Do you claim?!

Note: ATAQOOLOONA is derived from the root Qaf-W-L and it means saying or communicating in any way possible whether in words or otherwise. ATAQOOLOONA is an action that is being completed or will be completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of saying is happening or will be happening by the subject (second person plural) in a form of a question with exclamation. This, in turn means: Do you say? Or do you claim?

 

ʿalā: upon/ on

l-lahi: Allah

mā: what

lā taʿlamūna:  you have no knowledge/ without knowledge of facts

Note: LA is for denying what comes next. TaAALAMOON is derived from the root Ain-L-M and it means knowing/knowledge or knowledge of facts. TaAALAMOONA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of knowing is happening or will be happening by the subject (second person plural).

10:67

هُوَ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيلَ لِتَسْكُنُواْ فِيهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبْصِراً إِنَّ فِي ذٰلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ

 

huwa alladhī jaʿala lakumu al-layla litaskunū fīhi wal-nahāra mub`iran inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yasmaʿūna

 

The Aya says:

He is the one who made the night for you (plural) to rest in it, while the day visible.  Indeed, in those are signs to those who listen.

 

My personal note:

The Aya contrasts the day and night that the night is for our rest while the day if for action since we can see in it. 

 

Translation of the transliterated words:

huwa: He

alladhī: who

jaʿala: made/ employed/ transformed

Note: JaAAaLA is derived from the root J-Ain-L and it means making, forming or transforming something that already exists or that has not existed yet. Conceptually, it takes the meaning of transformation more often than formation. JaAAaLA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of forming or transforming the object (ALLAYLA- the night) by the subject (first person singular pointing to Allah).

Lakumu: for you/ for your safe

al-layla: the night

 Note: the root is L-Y-L and it means night. ALLAYLI means the night.

Litaskunū: in order that you rest/ in order that you relax

Note: LI means to or in order to.  TASKUNOO is derived from the root S-K-N and it means Ashes which is the product of the end of the fire. The conceptual meaning has many forms and it means rest or lack of movement, but it also means the lack of energy or running out of energy.  TASKUNOO is an action that is being completed or will be completed.  It means: the action of resting or calming down or relaxing Is happening or will be happening by the subject (second person plural).

Fīhi: in it


Waalnnahara: and the day
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA is often translated as an addition (and), but inclusion probably covers the meaning a little better. ALNNAHARA is derived from the root N-H-R and one of the concrete meanings of the word is running water or river. It is then used to mean running or flowing in many other meanings and contexts according to the sentence. ALNAHARA means the daytime and it’s relationship to the flowing could be due to the fact that the day is the time when our activities are “flowing” or because of the flow of the light in it.

 

mub`iran: seeing/ observing

Note: The root is B-Sad-R and it is the sense of the eye. It also has the meaning of seeing deeply. Seeing deeply means the concrete, but it can be applied to the deep vision of the brain, the insight.  MUBSIRAN means seeing or witnessing or observing.

Inna: indeed

Fī: in

Dhālika: that

Laāyātin: signs

Note: LA here is for emphasis.  AYATIN is derived from the root Hamza-Y-H and it means sign. AYATIN means signs.

Liqawmin:  to a people

 

Note: LI means to. QAWMIN is derived from the root Qaf-Y-M and it means standing or standing upright. QAWMIN are the people that stand together and that makes the group or people or nation, basically, any group of people that stand together or form a group.

 

yasmaʿūna:  who listen

Note: the root is S-M-Ain and and it means hearing or hearing and understanding or knowing and retaining at the same time. It also can mean hearing and approving or concurring at times.  YASMaAAooNA is an action that is happening or will be happening.  It means: the action of listening is happening by the subject (third person plural)
