2:100

Salaam all,

This is 2:100
أَوَكُلَّمَا عَاهَدُواْ عَهْداً نَّبَذَهُ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ
Awa kullama AAahadoo AAahdannabathahu fareequn minhum bal aktharuhum layu/minoona

Note:
The Aya says “Or is it that whenever they exchanged a promise (with GOD), a group of them put it away, but most of them do not make selves safe (in GOD)”

My personal note:
This Aya points out that people should keep their promises to GOD and not cast them away as they please. Casting away of a promise that is made to GOD is a sign of not making oneself safe in GOD.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Awa kullama: Or whenever
AAahadoo: Made a promise and/or a demand
Note: the root is Ain-H-D and it means a promise or a demand or both. AAaHADOO is a third person plural past tense of a verb that is derived of the same root. This verb is interactive and suggests a promise and /or demand made with another entity.
AAahdan: Promise or demand
Nabathahu: put away/cast away
Note: the root is N-B-Th and it means to put away something or someone or to cast it away. The concrete word is wine because the grape juice is put away to make the wine. NABATHOO is the third person plural past tense of the verb.
Fareequn: A group/a division
Note: the root is F-R-Qaf and it means to separate into two different entities. FAREEQ is a product of this division and means a group or a division.
Minhum: Of them
Bal: But
Aktharuhum: Most of them
Note: the root is K-TH-R and it means to become many in quality and quantity. AKTHAR means the more numerous. HUM means them and therefore AKTHARUHUM means the more numerous of them and that is really most of them.
layu/minoona: Do not feel safe (in GOD)
Note: LA means not. YU/MINOON is derived from the root Hamza-M-N and it means to become safe. YU/MINOON is the third person plural present tense of a verb that is derived from the verb. This verb means make self safe or feel safe.

Salaam all and have a great day
