3:157

Salaam all,

This is 3:157
وَلَئِن قُتِلْتُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ أَوْ مُتُّمْ لَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّنَ اللّهِ وَرَحْمَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ
Walain qutiltum fee sabeeli Allahi aw muttum lamaghfiratun mina Allahi warahmatun khayrun mimma yajmaAAoona

The Aya says:
And if you were killed in Allah’s path or died, then protective cover from Allah and Mercy (are) better than what they collect.

My personal note:
Here, the Aya mentions that the best path is the path of God even if one dies or gets killed while on it or while pursuing it. The path leads the person to God’s protective cover and mercy and there is nothing better than that.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Walain: and if
Qutiltum: You (plural) were killed/ fatally injured
Note: the root is Qaf-T-L and it means killing or actions that potentially can lead to death including injury and others. QUTILA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of killing or fatal injuring the object (KUM= plural you) happened by an undeclared subject.
Fee: in
sabeeli: path of
Note: the root is S-B-L and it means and it means flowing water from the falling rain from the sky to the flowing water in the river and so forth. This is the concrete and the other uses are related as in path, which allows the flow, to soft flowing hair and so forth. SABEELI is the flowing water or the path of. It takes the meaning of path or even the trip on the path.
Allahi: Allah
Aw: or
Muttum: You (plural) died
Note: the root is M-W-T and it means death or the opposite of life or the lack of voluntary movement. MUTTUM is an action that is completed. It means: the action of dying or losing life or movement happened by the subject (second person plural).
Lamaghfiratun: then protective cover/ forgiveness
Note: LA in this instance carries the meaning of then. MAGHFIRATUN is derived from the root GH-F-R and it means the helmet of the soldier in the battle. This one of the concrete words and the word is therefore used to mean protective covering in many fashions as in protecting the person from the error or protecting the person from the consequence of error and that is forgiveness. MAGHFIRATUN is a protective cover or forgiveness.
Mina: from
Allahi: Allah
Warahmatun: and mercy
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after. This link is through inclusion, either one is included in the other or they are all included in the bigger sentence or bigger picture. WA often corresponds with “and/ addition” but the more encompassing meaning is in inclusion one in another or all in a bigger picture or sentence. RAHMATUN is derived from the root R-Ha-M and it means womb in concrete. In the abstract, it means all the positive things that a womb does. Therefore, RAHMATUN means mercy, which is the closest word to what the womb does.
Khayrun: better than/ better choice
Note: the root is KH-Y-R and it means choice. It is also understood as good or as better, because one would chose the good over the bad. KHAYRUN means: better or best o.
Mimma: from what/ than what
yajmaAAoona: they gather/ collect
Note: the root is J-M-Ain and it means gather the different parts together or putting things together. YAJMaAAooNA is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of collecting the parts together or gathering is happening by the subject (third person plural).

Salaam all and have a great day.

Hussein
