The Aya says:
O Mary, make yourself dedicated to your nurturing Lord and prostrate and bow with the ones that bow.
My personal note:
The Aya mentions two actions that are included in the prayer, Sujood= prostration and Rukoo= bowing. Both words have a physical, mental, psychological and spiritual aspects to their meanings and all those aspects are binding. This is the range of the meaning of those words and since there is no indication in the sentence or the Qur'an to limit the meaning to one or another aspect, then the wide range of the meaning applies and is binding.

It therefore is used to mean tilting downward of the face or the body including prostration. In abstract, it means showing signs of submission to a higher power, basically showing that one is giving in to the higher power. The range of meaning includes the abstract and the concrete together and one needs to understand it as both unless there is a strong reason in the sentence or elsewhere in the Qur’an to make one meaning inappropriate or impossible.

My personal note:
The word ISTAFAKI has the meaning of being made chosen or purified by the subject for the purpose or purposes of the subject. The purpose or purposes may or may not be clear. This word was used in the above Aya were God made Miriam chosen. This meant that Mary had a purpose or a task that she needed to fulfill in the service of God and that God chose her for it. It gave Mary (peace on her) great honor and great responsibility. The same word (istafa) was used earlier in Aya 3:33 where God chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of Imran. All of them had great honor and great responsibility in the service of God.

The Aya says:
He (Zachariah) said: My nurturing Lord, make me a sign. He responded: Your sign is that you will not speak to the people, for three days, except without voice. And mention and remember your nurturing Lord abundantly, and glorify (Him) in the night and the morning.

Here, it continues the story of Zachariah as he was asking for signs of the message from God. Zachariah will be unable to speak except through symbols and mimes to the people for three days. It also reminds him and all of us to remember and mention God all the time.

Qala rabbi anna yakoonu lee ghulamun waqad balaghaniya alkibaru waimraatee AAaqirun qala kathalika Allahu yafAAalu ma yashao
The Aya says:
He (Zachariah) said: My nurturing Lord, How will belong to me a child/youth while old age (has) reached me and my wife (is) barren?! He responded: That (is) how Allah does what He wills/ entities.
My personal note:
As if Zachariah was asking for a child and not expecting that the child will come. So, he was surprised when the message came to him that he will have the child. When he asked how does it happen? in those unlikely circumstances, the answer came that God does what He entities. This means: God makes an entity what was not an entity.

Note: the root is K-B-R and it means big in quality or quantity or any other feature that denotes bigness. This is the general meaning and becomes more specific according to the sentence. ALKIBARU here means the bigness and in this instance, it takes the meaning of bigness as old age.
Waimraatee: and my wife
Note: WA means and. IMRAATEE is derived from the root M-R-Hamza and it means a man and the feminine of the word is IMRAA. IMRAATI means woman of me and here means my wife.
AAaqirun: Barren/ cannot bear children
Note: the root is Ain- Qaf-R and it means being unable to bear children in one of the concrete meanings. Another is the sand that cannot grow plants on it. So, it has the general concept of reaching or being at a dead end point that cannot lead to offspring or productivity. AAaQIRUN here means: she is barren or cannot bear children.

So, the angels called him while standing, praying in the place of prayer, that Allah is bringing you good news of Yahya (John), making true by statement from Allah and a master, and a limiter (of sin) and a prophet, among the ones of benefit/ the righteous.
My personal note:
The statement Musaddiqan bikalimatin min Allah was translated by me as making true by statement from Allah. This passage can carry many meanings that are not mutually exclusive. They include:
1- Declaring true words of Allah.
2- Carrying the words of Allah with truth and by truth.
3- Declaring true Jesus and his message. This is because Jesus was mentioned in the Qur’an as a statement or word from God. However, Muslims understand this statement that Jesus was created by a word from God, and not that Jesus was the word himself. That word was BE and he became being.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Fanadathu: So, they called him
Note: FA means so or therefore or then. NADATHU is derived from the root N-D-Y and it means in concrete dew or water touching a surface. It is also used for voice arriving to an entity. In both, the shared meaning is something touching or arriving at another entity. In this instance, it is the calling. NADAT is an action that is completed. The Aya says:
So her nurturing Lord accepted her with beautiful reception, and made her planted good planting, and He made Zachariah take care of her. Whenever Zachariah entered the most important place (of hers), he found provisions. He said: “O Mary how does this belong to you?!” She responded: “It is from Allah. Verily, Allah provides whomever He wills without measure.”

The good planting is a term that covers the issues of growing and raising a person and taking care of them which is similar to the growing and taking care of the plant.
AlMihrab is a word that I translated as the most important place. This meaning can cover the best part of the house, the most private and also the place of worship.

Verily, Allah provides whomever He wills without measure.”

The good planting is a term that covers the issues of growing and raising a person and taking care of them which is similar to the growing and taking care of the plant.

Here, the wife of Imran had dedicated what she was carrying in her pregnancy to God. The word Muharraran is understood as made free. It is to mean that the child is free of any other obligation or attachment except being dedicated to God.

Thurriyya means seed or dispersion and is used to mean offspring. In here, it can be used to mean the offspring as their own children or grandchildren, but it also keeps the door open to their offspring that is the product of their education and of following their message. Both meanings are correct and not mutually exclusive. There is one exception and that is the offspring of any of those who do not follow the message, then they are excluded from this group.

The word Istafa takes the meaning of the subject making purified or chosen the object for the subject. So, the Aya means that those people were chosen and purified by God for Himself. This means that they were chosen to serve God and propagate his message as well as other aspects of why God would choose some of his creation specifically for His service.
The words AALI were translated as people of. They can be the family of the person and that is correct, but on a wider scale, it involves all the people of the person and that includes the people that used the person as the leader or followed his path and direction.

The Aya points to the fact that obeying Allah and His messenger is part of the system and the direction that is to be taken by the people of God. It reminds us that people who take their own direction away from God’s path are people who are not loved by Allah.
Again, the theme is that of God’s love and ways to reach God’s love. We have to always work on loving God and on making God love us. The Aya mentions one of the ways of earning God’s love and that is following his direction and path willingly.

My personal note:
The Aya reminds us that we will find all what we do of good and bad on the Day of judgement. It reminds us that we will wish that our bad deeds are as far as they can be from us. The Aya again makes us aware of the danger of forgetting God and his orders, as it also assures us of God’s kindness and compassion towards us.
This is again a reminder not to take God for granted and to always work on the love of God combined with awareness of the danger of ignoring him and the awareness of his compassion and kindness and love towards us.

The Aya says:
The ones who made themselves safe (in God) will not take the rejecters (as) guardians short of the ones who make themselves safe (in God). And whoever does that is not of Allah in any entity, except that you make yourselves conscious of them, consciousness. And Allah makes you aware of his own Self’s danger. And to Allah is the ending.
My personal note:
This Aya is important and enters in the polemics between Muslims and non Muslims. It centers on the use of the word Awliya which is often translated as friends. Awliya gives the meaning of people who are a combination or directors and guarantors. That is why I used the word guardians for the meaning. So Awliya can be understood as friends, but within that context which gives authority to direct a person in one or another direction and guarantee as well.
So, when God is asking the Mumins= believers or the ones who are safe in God not to take the rejecters as Awliya. He is, in essence, asking us to be independent from their direction, guarantee and guardianship. The Aya asks us to grant the guardianship only to those who are also safe in God. The Aya continues that it is ok to be conscious of the rejecters. Therefore consciousness (in whatever angle of meaning of this word) is fine, but guardianship and direction is not.
Another issue is the statement “And Allah makes you aware of His own Self’s danger”. This statement is a clear reminder to anyone never to take God for granted. It would be unwise to see this statement and say God is scary and dangerous while ignoring the Ayat that mention God’s love and Mercy. However, it is also unwise to see the Ayat that mention the Love and Mercy of God and forget this one as well. The big message is being aware of all. One ends up with the balance of the Love for God, the trust in His endless mercy, and the awareness of His danger if ignored or rejected.

So Awliya can be understood as friends, but within that context which gives authority to direct a person in one or another direction and guarantee as well.
So, when God is asking the Mumins= believers or the ones who are safe in God not to take the rejecters as Awliya. He is, in essence, asking us to be independent from their direction, guarantee and guardianship. The Aya asks us to grant the guardianship only to those who are also safe in God. The Aya continues that it is ok to be conscious of the rejecters. Therefore consciousness (in whatever angle of meaning of this word) is fine, but guardianship and direction is not.
Another issue is the statement “And Allah makes you aware of His own Self’s danger”. This statement is a clear reminder to anyone never to take God for granted. It would be unwise to see this statement and say God is scary and dangerous while ignoring the Ayat that mention God’s love and Mercy. However, it is also unwise to see the Ayat that mention the Love and Mercy of God and forget this one as well. The big message is being aware of all. One ends up with the balance of the Love for God, the trust in His endless mercy, and the awareness of His danger if ignored or rejected.

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جَمَعْنَاهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ لاَّ رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَوُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لاَ يُظْلَمُونَ
Fakayfa itha jamaAAnahum liyawmin la rayba feehi wawuffiyat kullu nafsin ma kasabat wahum la yuthlamoona
The Aya says:
So how (about) if/ when we gathered them to a day, no doubt in him, and every self was made to meet her dues of what she earned?! And they will not be treated unfairly.
My personal note:
This Aya reminds us that God is Just. It also reminds us that all what we do is going to be accounted for in front of God. It has a suggestion that many people’s actions are going to have negative effects on them.
