Salaam all,

This is 3:97
فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّـنَاتٌ مَّقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمَن دَخَلَهُ كَانَ آمِنًا وَلِلّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلاً وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ الله غَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ
Feehi ayatun bayyinatun maqamu ibraheema waman dakhalahu kana aminan walillahi AAala alnnasi hijju albayti mani istataAAa ilayhi sabeelan waman kafara fainna Allaha ghaniyyun AAani alAAalameena

The Aya says:
In him (the shelter/house) are clarifying signs, place of Abraham’s standing, and whoever entered him happened to be safe, and to Allah, on the people, pilgrimage to the shelter whoever was capable of the trip, and whoever rejected, then Allah, (is) verily, independent from all creation.

My personal note:
This continues the issues related to the house or shelter that was first put to the people. It says that it has clarifying or clear signs including the place of standing of Abraham as well as the safety that happened to whoever entered the house. It then continues that God has a right on the people to ask them to perform pilgrimage to the shelter if they were capable of the trip. Then it ends that those who reject, then Allah does not need them. It is always a reminder that we are dependant and needy of God, while He is free of any need.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Feehi: in Him (the house or shelter)
Ayatun: signs
Note: the root is Hamza-Y-H and it means sign. AYATUN means signs.

Bayyinatun: clarifying
Note: the root is B-Y-N and it means between. This word then assumes many meanings as separation and distancing between two or more things. It also carries the meaning of clarification between two things. Here, it adopts the meaning of clarification. BAYYINATUN means clarifying.
Maqamu: place of standing of
Note: the root is Qaf-W-M and it means to stand upright. MAQAM is the place of standing of.
Ibraheema: Abraham
Waman: and whomever/ while whomever/ including whomever
Dakhalahu: enters him (the shelter)/ happened to enter him
Note: the root is D-KH-L and it means entering. DAKHALA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of entering happened by the subject (third person singular). HU is the object of the action and it means him and points to the shelter.
Kana: he became/ he happened to be
Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being. KANA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of being happened by the subject (third personal singular). This in turn means: he were or he happened to be
Aminan: Safe
Note: the root is Hamza-M-N and it means to become safe. AAMINAN is derived from the root and it means was made safe/made safe or just safe.

Note: WA links what is before with what is after through inclusion, either including one in the other or both in a bigger picture. LI means to or belongs to. ALLAH means Allah.
AAala: on
Alnnasi: the people/ the society
Note: ALNNASI is derived from the root Hamza-N-S and it means socializing. ALNNAS are the society/the people.
Hijju: pilgrimage to/ pursuit of
Note: the root is Ha-J-J and it means pursuit. This is in pursuit of some place or entity, usually for a higher goal as a proof or learning. There is also a sense that this pursuit may happen at appointed times and therefore may happen at a known repeat time. The term has been used for pilgrimage because, pilgrimage is a pursuit in one sense or another and it serves to help people find proofs and otherwise. HIJJU is the pursuit of or the pilgrimage to (which is a pursuit)
Albayti: the shelter/ the home/ the house
Note: the root is B-Y-T and it means to reach the night and BAYT is the place that you spend the night in. It is also used for any structure that can be used for that purpose and for animal dwellings. Therefore BAYT is closer to a shelter as the conceptual meaning and within that meaning falls the home or the house. ALBAYTI is the home or the shelter.
Mani: whoever
istataAAa: was capable/ who sought and achieved willing compliance
Note: the root is TTa-W-Ain and it means willing compliance. ISTATaAAa is an action that is completed. It means the action of seeking willing compliance happened and was achieved by the subject (third person singular). It takes the meaning of capability because the capable is the one that can guarantee the willing compliance of the elements that lead to achieving the goals.
Ilayhi: to him (the house or shelter)
Sabeelan: path/ trip on the path
Note: the root is S-B-L and it means and it means flowing water from the falling rain from the sky to the flowing water in the river and so forth. This is the concrete and the other uses are related as in path, which allows the flow, to soft flowing hair and so forth. SABEEL is the flowing water or the path. It takes the meaning of path or even the trip on the path.
Waman: and whoever
Kafara: rejected/ happened to reject
Note: the root is K-F-R and it means burying the seed in the ground for planting. It is used to mean rejection of an idea because that means covering the brain in the ground from the idea or covering the idea so that it is not known or seen. KAFARA is an action that is derived from the root and that is completed. It means the action of rejection happened by the subject (third person singular)). It means he rejected.
Fainna: then verily
Allaha: Allah
Ghaniyyun: rich/ free of need/ self sufficient/ independent
Note: the root is Gh-N-Y and it means freedom from need in any of it’s forms. This is the conceptual meaning and it is used for richness or self sufficiency or independence and so forth.
AAani: from/away from
Note: this word takes the meaning of from, but at times takes the meaning of away from and so on.
alAAalameena: all creation/ all
Note: the root is Ain-L-M and it means knowledge or knowing. ALAAaLAMEENA means the known or the knowns. Since, it is talking about God, who knows everything, then it is pointing to all creation as in everything everywhere and anywhere and so forth. There is a possibility that it is talking about humanity mainly, even though it can be more encompassing than that.

Salaam all,

This is 3:96
إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِي بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًا وَهُدًى لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
Inna awwala baytin wudiAAa lilnnasi lallathee bibakkata mubarakan wahudan lilAAalameena

The Aya says:
Verily, the first shelter put to the people (is) the one in Bekka, made blessed and guidance to all creation.

My personal note:
This Aya declares which Shelter/home/ house was made first to the people. I chose shelter because I find that closer to the meaning of Bayt than the usual home. Home is correct, but the word BAYT is used for home as a shelter, more than anything else. It gives the feeling of safety.

I also kept the word Bekka as is, since it was the word used in the Qur’an as the name of the place. It is understood as Mecca where the M and the B are being replaceable. The meaning of Bekka is crowded place and that fits with Mecca during pilgrimage whether before Islam or after it.

The purpose of the shelter will come in the next Aya, where it declares it as a place of pilgrimage and worship.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Inna: verily
Awwala: first/ most ultimate
Note: the root is Hamza-W-L and it means ultimate as a concept and takes different shapes and specific meanings according to the situation. AWWALA means more ultimate and that takes the meaning of first because the first is the most ultimate.
Baytin: home/ shelter
Note: the root is B-Y-T and it means to reach the night and BAYT is the place that you spend the night in. It is also used for any structure that can be used for that purpose and for animal dwellings. Therefore BAYT is closer to a shelter as the conceptual meaning and within that meaning falls the home or the house. BAYTIN is home or shelter.
wudiAAa: put/placed
Note: the root is W-Dhad-Ain and it means putting down an entity. The word then takes the meaning according to the context of the sentence and plane of thought. WUDiAAa is an action that is completed. It means: the action of putting down/placing the object (Baytin= home or shelter) was completed by an undeclared subject.
Lilnnasi: to the people/ to the society
Note: LI means to. ALNNASI is derived from the root the root is Hamza-N-S and it means socializing. ALNNASI are the society or the people.
Lallathee: that which (with stress)
Bibakkata: in Mecca/ in Bekka/ in the crowded place
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. In this case the BI is not associated with an action and therefore takes the meaning of in. BAKKATA is a name of a place. Most exegetes understand it to be Mecca, because of the closeness of the words, as well as the Aya that comes after it. The word BAKKA is derived from the root B-K-K and it means crowded or crowding. The relationship to Mecca is that it is a place that becomes crowded in the season of pilgrimage. In pre-Islamic Arabia, Arabs saw the biggest crowds at the time of the pilgrimage.
Mubarakan: made blessed
Note: the root is B-R-K and it means in concrete when the water is on the ground in a pool, or when the camel is sitting on the ground with his chest touching it. The word is also used in Arabic and Hebrew to mean blessing with all the potential meanings that come with blessing. MUBARAKAN means made blessed.
Wahudan: and guidance/ including guidance
Note: WA is a letter that links what is before with what is after through inclusion, either including one in the other or both in a bigger picture. HUDAN is derived from the root H-D-Y and it means gift in all it’s forms and it carries the meaning of guidance since guidance is a gift. HUDAN means guidance and it could mean gift as well.
lilAAalameena: to all/ to the worlds/ to all humanity
Note: Li means to. LAAaLAMEEN is derived from the root is Ain-L-M and it means knowledge or knowing. ALAAaLAMEENA means the known or the knowns. Since, it is talking about God, who knows everything, then it is pointing to all creation as in everything everywhere and anywhere and so forth. قُلْ صَدَقَ اللّهُ فَاتَّبِعُواْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ
Qul sadaqa Allahu faittabiAAoo millata ibraheema haneefan wama kana mina almushrikeena

The Aya says:
Say (O Muhammad): Allah brought the truth, therefore make yourselves follow religion of Abraham, tilting to Allah, and he was not amongst the one who make partners (to Allah).

My personal note:
This is an emphasis that the message of the Qur’an is to urge people follow the same path that was followed by Abraham, may God’s peace be upon him. It is also an affirmation that this is the same message or the continuation of the same message of Abraham.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Qul: Say
Note: the root is Qaf-W-L and it means saying. QUL is an order addressing a single person and it means: Say
Sadaqa: He said truth/ He brought truthfulness (in word, deed and otherwise)
Note: the root is Sad-D-Qaf and it means truth in word or deed as a concept. When it is in deed, it takes the shape of any act of truthfulness including charity. SADAQA is an action that is completed. It means the action of truthfulness happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah). This covers all aspects of truthfulness and includes what He conveyed of message and otherwise.
Allahu: Allah
faittabiAAoo: then make yourselves follow
Note: FA means then or therefore or so. ITTABIAAooNI is derived from the root T-B-Ain and it means following footsteps or following behind, or joining and following. ITTABiAAoo is an order for action addressing a group. It means: make yourselves follow or join and follow the object (Millata Ibraheema= the path of Abraham/ religion of Abraham).
Millata: religion of/ dictate of/ path of
Note: the root M-L-L and it means repeating something several times so that it becomes well known or boring. This same conceptual meaning can be taken as dictate for someone to write something since that written thing will be read repeatedly or any form of dictate where one is expected to keep doing the same thing. MILLATA means: dictate of or religion of or path of in this area since all three are things that are done repeatedly in the same fashion.
Ibraheema: Abraham
Haneefan: tilted towards God
Note: this is a word that is hard to translate. The root is Ha-N-F and it means the foot that is tilting inwards so that the sole is exposed. The Haneef is the one whose foot is tilted towards the sister foot. This is then used to mean, in this instance, that the person who is haneef is the one who tilts to the natural spiritual tendency and that is a tilt towards God.
Wama: and not
Kana: he was/ he happened to be
Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being. KANA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of being happened by the subject (third personal singular). This in turn means: he was or he happened to be
Mina: from/of
Almushrikeena: the ones who make partners
Note: the root SH-R-K and it means partner or partnership and with this partnership is a measure of equality or being on par. ALMUSHRIKEENA are the ones who make partners to God or who associate partners to God.

فَمَنِ افْتَرَىَ عَلَى اللّهِ الْكَذِبَ مِن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ
Famani iftara AAala Allahi alkathiba min baAAdi thalika faolaika humu althalimoona

The Aya says:
Therefore whoever concocted on Allah the untruth after that, then those (are) the transgressors.

My personal note:
This points to one of the greater sins and that is making up untruths and attributing to God.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Famani: Therefore whoever
Iftara: concocted/ make untruths
Note: the root is F-R-W and it means the furr or the animal or the skin that is normally covered with hair. This word is used when people are concocting things and making things up that are not true. It could be related to the action of cutting the skin apart or making things up as in making a dress out of the skin and so forth. IFTARA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of concocting or making up untruths was made to happen by the subject (third person singular) for himself.

Alkathiba: the untruth
Note: the root is K-TH-B and it means a lie or not true. ALKATHIBA is the lie or the untruth.

Note: the root is THA-L-M and it means darkness in the most concrete form. This word also takes the meaning of misplacing right from wrong and transgression since it is misplacing right from wrong and a decision made in darkness. ALTHTHALIMOONA are the ones in darkness, the transgressors or the mis-placers of right and wrong.

كُلُّ الطَّعَامِ كَانَ حِـلاًّ لِّبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ إِلاَّ مَا حَرَّمَ إِسْرَائِيلُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن تُنَزَّلَ التَّوْرَاةُ قُلْ فَأْتُواْ بِالتَّوْرَاةِ فَاتْلُوهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Kullu alttaAAami kana hillan libanee israeela illa ma harrama israeelu AAala nafsihi min qabli an tunazzala alttawratu qul fatoo bialttawrati faotlooha in kuntum sadiqeena

The Aya says:
All the food was permitted to the children of Israel except what Israel made forbidden on himself before the Torah was sent down. Say (O Muhammad): then come with the Torah, then recite it if you were truthful.

My personal note:
This Aya touches on the food prohibitions in the Jewish religion and that it stemmed from what Jacob/ Israel made prohibited on himself before the Torah was sent.

Note: the root is N-Z-L and it carries the meaning of arrival to stay and descent. One concrete meaning is the descent of the person from his or her horse or camel as they arrive at the place where they plan to stay. TUNAZZALA is an action that is being completed or will be completed that is derived from the root. It means the action of arrival or descent is being made to happen to the object (Alttawratu= the Torah) by an undeclared subject. Even though the tense of the action is happening, it attains the completed action that happened after another completed action because of the sentence.

Bialttawrati: with the Torah/ by the torah
Note: Bi suggests that what comes after it is either an association with the action, a tool of the action or an object of the action or any combination of the three. If bi serves as an object of the action that it serves as an emphasis of the action. ALTTAWRATI is the Torah which is the book of Moses.
Faotlooha: then recite her/ then follow her closely
Note: FA means then or therefore or so. OTLOOHA is derived from the root T-L-W and it means following closely. The concrete word that is derived from the root is the baby animal after it had been weaned from the breast and who follows his mother everywhere closely. The word means the following closely and also reciting, because that involves following each word with another. OTLOO is an order to a group of people to recite or follow closely and both meanings are correct in this case. HA means here and it points to the Torah.

لَن تَنَالُواْ الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنفِقُواْ مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ وَمَا تُنفِقُواْ مِن شَيْءٍ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ بِهِ عَلِيمٌ
Lan tanaloo albirra hatta tunfiqoo mimma tuhibboona wama tunfiqoo min shayin fainna Allaha bihi AAaleemun

The Aya says:
You will not reach the good landing until you spend of what you love. And what you spend of entity, then verily, Allah, in it, (is) knowledgeable.

My personal note:
I used good landing for Albirra because it is the route to goodness and it is also the product of goodness.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Lan: never
Tanaloo: will you reach/ will you grasp/ hold
Note: the root is N-Y-L and it means taking or reaching as a concept. One of the concrete words is Neel and it is the river of Egypt, because it makes the water reach Egypt. TANALOO is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of reaching or taking the object (Albirra) is being completed or will be completed by the subject (second person plural)
Albirra: the good landing
Note: the root is B-R-R and it means solid land or firm ground. This is the concrete meaning and the abstract is related to it as in firm grounding or the good landing because the word is associated with goodness as a process to goodness and the achievement of goodness. ALBIRRA is the good landing since this term has the process and the result at the same time.
Hatta: until
Tunfiqoo: you spend
Note: the root is N-F-Qaf and it means tunnel in the concrete sense. This is then used to mean anything that is tunneled from one place to another as in hiding your thoughts or presenting different than the ones that you hold. Another is tunneling you money to another destination as in giving some of your money to charity or so forth. Here, it is used for the tunneling of the money or the spending it for charity. TUNFIQOO is an action that is derived from the root and that is being completed or will be completed. It means the action of making tunnelling or spending is happening or will be occurring by the subject (second person plural).

Note: the root is Ha-B-B and it means in concrete seed. This word also means love. As if the seed is the product of love or the love will end up in a seed. TUHIBBOONA is an action that is derived from the root and that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of loving is happening or will be happening by the subject (second person plural). This, in effect means, You (plural) love.

Note: the root is N-F-Qaf and it means tunnel in the concrete sense. إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَمَاتُواْ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْ أَحَدِهِم مِّلْءُ الأرْضِ ذَهَبًا وَلَوِ افْتَدَى بِهِ أُوْلَـئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّاصِرِينَ
Inna allatheena kafaroo wamatoo wahum kuffarun falan yuqbala min ahadihim milo alardi thahaban walawi iftada bihi olaika lahum AAathabun aleemun wama lahum min nasireena

The Aya says:
Verily, those who rejected and died while they (are) rejecters, then will never be accepted from any one of them fullness of the earth of Gold, even if he ransomed himself by it (the gold). Those, belongs to them, painful suffering and they will not have of supporters.

My personal note:
The Aya mention the inclusion that this applies to people who reject and then die while rejecting Allh and His message, that then it is too late to repent. The door to repentance is open to us all the length of our lives. Once we die, the door gets closed. Death often surprises us.

Note: the root is K-F-R and it means covering the seeds in the earth for the concrete. In abstract it means covering mainly the mind to what is presented and that is through rejection. KUFFAR are the ones that cover to the message or the rejectors.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِهِمْ ثُمَّ ازْدَادُواْ كُفْرًا لَّن تُقْبَلَ تَوْبَتُهُمْ وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الضَّآلُّونَ
Inna allatheena kafaroo baAAda eemanihim thumma izdadoo kufran lan tuqbala tawbatuhum waolaika humu alddalloona

The Aya says:
Verily, those who rejected (Allah and His message) after their safety (in Allah), then they increased themselves in rejection, Never will their repentance be accepted, and those are the ones who lost the path.

My personal note:
The Aya mentions that that one of the worst acts of humanity is rejection of God after having fallen into safety in Him and then increasing oneself in rejection. May God helps us and protect us from falling in this form of the lost path.

إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ تَابُواْ مِن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُواْ فَإِنَّ الله غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Illa allatheena taboo min baAAdi thalika waaslahoo fainna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

The Aya says:
Except those who repented after that, and made deeds of beneficence, then, verily, Allah (is) forgiving, merciful.

My personal note:
This continues the message from the previous Aya. God never closes the door to repentance, except for those who closed the door themselves.

Translation of the transliterated words:

GHAFOOR is the one who provides protective cover. Here, it gives the meaning of forgiving, as well other protections from sin, as in committing it or any of it’s influences.
Raheemun: merciful
Note: the root is R-Ha-M and it means womb in concrete. This term is used to mean mercy and all the good that the womb provides. RAHEEM is the one with the womb-like mercy.

خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا لاَ يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابُ وَلاَ هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ
Khalideena feeha la yukhaffafu AAanhumu alAAathabu wala hum yuntharoona

The Aya says:
They (are) Staying unchanged in her (the distancing from Allah). The suffering will not be made light for them, nor will they be reprieved.

My personal note:
This continues the same message from before. It mentions that the distancing from God or the curse of God will not be made light. This brings the opinion that this distancing is Hell. Indeed, the worse thing about Hell is the fact that the person is distanced from Allah.

Translation from the transliterated words:
Khalideena: staying unchanged
Note: the root is KH-L-D and it means something that stays the same. In concrete, it is used for the rocks and the mountains that seem to be unchanged through the ages. KHALIDEENA means staying unchanged.

Yukhaffafu: will be lightened/ will be made light
Note: the root is KH-F-F and it means light or becoming light for the action. YUKHAFFAF is an action that is completed. It means: the action of making the object (ALAAaTHABU= the suffering) lighter happened by an undeclared subject.

It means: the action of giving waiting time or reprieve to the object (third person plural) is happening or will be happening by an undeclared subject.

أُوْلَـئِكَ جَزَآؤُهُمْ أَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ لَعْنَةَ اللّهِ وَالْمَلآئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ
Olaika jazaohum anna AAalayhim laAAnata Allahi waalmalaikati waalnnasi ajmaAAeena

The Aya means:
Those, their compensation for their action is that, on them (will be), the distancing from Allah and the angels and the people collectively.

My personal note:
One of the worse things to happen to anyone is when he or she becomes distanced from Allah. One will therefore need to ask God for guidance never to leave the middle path that is Islam. One also needs to remember that, as long as one is alive, it is not too late to return to God in repentance and worship as he or she returns to becoming safe in Allah. There is no safety except in Allah.

كَيْفَ يَهْدِي اللّهُ قَوْمًا كَفَرُواْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِهِمْ وَشَهِدُواْ أَنَّ الرَّسُولَ حَقٌّ وَجَاءهُمُ الْبَيِّنَاتُ وَاللّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Kayfa yahdee Allahu qawman kafaroo baAAda eemanihim washahidoo anna alrrasoola haqqun wajaahumu albayyinatu waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena

The Aya says:
How (does) Allah guide a people who rejected after their safety (in Him) and witnessed that the messenger is binding truth and came to them with the clarifiers, while Allah does not guide the transgressing people?!

My personal note:
This is an Aya that mentions that when people reject after having seen the truth and witnessed it is something that will make them in a very difficult place to receive the message and become safe in it again. One thing to keep in mind is that this Aya points to difficulty, but not complete impossibility of finding the truth again.

Note: the root Ha-Qaf-Qaf and it means binding right where right means correct as well s what is due to one person (rights and obligations). HAQQUN is binding right or binding truth.
Wajaahumu: and came to them

JAA is an action that is completed. It means: the action of coming happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to Albyyinatu= the clarifiers) to the object (humu which means them).
