إِذْ قَالَ اللّهُ يَا عِيسَى إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَجَاعِلُ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ إِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ فِيمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ
Ith qala Allahu ya AAeesa innee mutawaffeeka warafiAAuka ilayya wamutahhiruka mina allatheena kafaroo wajaAAilu allatheena ittabaAAooka fawqa allatheena kafaroo ila yawmi alqiyamati thumma ilayya marjiAAukum faahkumu baynakum feema kuntum feehi takhtalifoona

The Aya says:
As/when Allah said to Jesus: “O Jesus, I am taking you and raising you to Me, and cleansing you from the ones who rejected and I am making the ones who followed you above the ones who rejected till the day of judgement. Then, to Me (is) your (plural) return. So, I will judge between you in what you happened to be differing in.

My personal note:
The statement that Jesus was taken by God is an area where some people claim this meant the death of Jesus, while others say that Jesus is not dead. This statement can mean death but it does not have to mean death. Therefore, the insistence on death may be too zealous and inappropriate.

Another point to make is related to the statement: “and I am making those who followed you above those who rejected till the day of judgement”. This is a prophecy that has narrow and wide understandings. The narrow understanding would be the thought of Christians being dominant over Jews. The wider understanding would include that those who followed Jesus, and this includes Muslims, will be dominant over those who rejected him, and this encompasses anyone who rejected Jesus’ message no matter what origin he or she may come from.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Ith: As/ when
Note: the term ITH and it’s relative ITHA have a time connotation as well as the conditional.
Qala: He said
Note: the root is Qaf-W-L and it means saying or communicating. QALA is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the saying happened by the subject (third person singular pointing to Allah).
Allahu: Allah
ya AAeesa: O Jesus
Note: this is a calling to Jesus
Innee: Verily I
Mutawaffeeka: taking you
Note: the root W-F-Y and it means meeting dues. This then takes different meanings according to the plane of thought of the sentence. One meaning could be death since it is a meeting of dues, or just a taking of someone or something depending on the situation. MUTAWAFFEEKA means making you meet dues which can mean death or taking him away without necessary dying. There is another occasion in the Qur’an where this term was used without it meaning death 39:42
warafiAAuka: and raising you
Note: WA means and. RAFiAAuKA is derived from the root R-F-Ain and it means raising an entity upwards. RAFiAAuKA means raising you (singular).
Ilayya: to me
Wamutahhiruka: and cleansing you/ and purifying you
Note: WA means and. MUTAHHIRUKA is derived from the root TTa-H-R and it means clean or cleansed in a concrete, spiritual and other senses. MUTAHHIRUKA means: cleansing you in all the aspects of cleansing spiritual and otherwise.
Mina: from
Allatheena: those who
Kafaroo: rejected
Note: the root is K-F-R and it means burying the seed in the ground for planting. It is used to mean rejection of an idea because that means covering the brain in the ground from the idea or covering the idea so that it is not known or seen. KAFAROO is an action that is derived from the root and that is completed. It means the action of rejection happened by the subject (third person plural pointing to any group that fits the description. Here it points to allatheena= those who). It means they rejected.
wajaAAilu: and making
Note: WA means and. JaAAiLU is derived from the root J-Ain-L and it means making. JaAAILU means making.
Allatheena: those who
ittabaAAooka: joined and followed you/ made them-selves join and follow you.
Note: the root T-B-Ain and it means following footsteps or following behind, or joining and following. ITTABaAAoo is an action that is completed. It means: the action of making the object (third person plural) join and follow a second object Ka= singular you, happened by the subject (same as the first object).
Fawqa: over/ above
Note: the root is F-W-Qaf and it means above or rising (aboving). This is used for waking up from sleep because it is a form of rising, but it is also used in many other forms according to the plane of thought of the sentence. FAWQA means above.
Allatheena: those who
Kafaroo: rejected

Note: the root is Q-W-M and it means standing upright. ALQIYAMATI is the standing upright or upright standing. This is a term that is used for the day of judgement because we all stand in front of GOD.
Thumma: then
Note: this is a sequence that can be in time or place or any other plane of thought that allows sequence.
Ilayya: to Me
marjiAAukum: your return/ your place and time of return
Note: the root is R-J-Ain and it means returning. MARJiAAuKUM is the place or time of return or both. It can also mean return period, because return will happen in it’s place and it’s time at the same time.
Faahkumu: So, I judge/ I steer/ I rule
Note: FA means so or therefore, or then. AHKUMU is derived from the root Ha-K-M and it means the steer that steers the animal. This word is used for ruling and judging as well as other meanings that contain steering as part of the concept. AAHKUMU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means the action of ruling/judging/ steering is happening or will be happening by the subject (first person singular and points to God).
Baynakum: Between you.
Feema: in what
Kuntum: you (plural) happened to be
Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being. KUNTUM is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of being happened by the subject (second person plural). This in turn means: you were or you happened to be.
Feehi: in him
Note: the “him” is pointing to the “what” that was mentioned earlier.
Takhtalifoona: You (plural) differ
Note: the root is KH-L-F and it means behind in all of it’s meanings as in time or space or otherwise. TAKHTALIFOON is an interactive action that is being completed or will be completed and that is derived from the root. It means the action of making others behind each other is happening or will be happening in an interactive manner by the subject (second person plural). This is then the expression that is used to mean that you differ because each puts the opinion of the other behind himself or herself.
