Salaam all,
This is 3:139
وَلاَ تَهِنُوا وَلاَ تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنتُمُ الأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Wala tahinoo wala tahzanoo waantumu alaAAlawna in kuntum mumineena
The aya says:
And do not lose your strength/ resolve and do not become sad, and you (plural) are the ones on top, if you happened to be ones who make themselves safe (in Allah).
My personal note:
It is a reminder to the people who follow the message and who are facing the challenges of life. It asks them not to loose their strength and resolve in following the message and not to be worried or sad about what happens. It then reassures that they are the ones on top, if they happened to make themselves safe in Allah and His message.
Translation of the transliterated words:
Wala: and not
Tahinoo: you (plural) become weak/ you (plural) loose strength/ resolve
Note: the root is W-H-N and it means weakness or lack of strength in all the angles of the word. TAHINOO is an action that is part of an order. The order WALA TAHINOO means: do not become weak/ do not loose your strength (in all the angles of the word)
Wala: and not
Tahzanoo: you become sad/ you become sorry/ you become worried
Note: the root is Ha-Z-N and it means sadness/ being worried or being sorry. All the meanings are related in the sense of sadness or anxiety at the same time. WALA TAHZANOO is an order addressed to a group. It means: Do not become sad/ sorry/ worried, all at the same time.
Waantumu: and you (plural)/ while you (plural)
alaAAlawna: The above/ the ones on top
Note: the root is Ain-L-Y and it means above or on top or on. ALaAALAWNA are the ones on top.
In: if
Kuntum: you happened to be/ you were
Note: the root is K-W-N and it means being. KUTUM is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of being happened by the subject (second person plural). This in turn means: You (plural) were or you happened to be.
Mumineena: ones who make themselves safe
Note: the root Hamza-M-N and it means safety. MUMINEENA means ones who make themselves safe.
Salaam all and have a great day.
Hussein
