وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُواْ فَاحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُواْ أَنْفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُواْ اللّهَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُواْ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَن يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ اللّهُ وَلَمْ يُصِرُّواْ عَلَى مَا فَعَلُواْ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
Waallatheena itha faAAaloo fahishatan aw thalamoo anfusahum thakaroo Allaha faistaghfaroo lithunoobihim waman yaghfiru alththunooba illa Allahu walam yusirroo AAala ma faAAaloo wahum yaAAlamoona

The Aya says:
And those who, when/if they commit an ugly act, or transgress against themselves, they remembered Allah, therefore they sought protective cover from their sins. And who forgives the sins, but Allah?! And they did not insist on what they did, while knowing (that it is wrong).

My personal note:
This Aya is beautiful. It accepts that people who follow God’s path may commit sin or ugly acts (sexual or otherwise) or words. It also suggests that those sins harm the person who commits them more than anything and that is why they are considered a transgression against the self.

It also talks about protective cover that is sought and that is to protect them from the effect of sin on them. That protective cover is through the forgiveness from God, but also protection from God against other effects of the sin. The Aya points out that He alone is the one who provides protective cover.

The Aya ends up with another condition available in those people. That is that they do not insist on error once they know that it is wrong.

Translation of the transliterated words:
Waallatheena: and those who
Itha: if/when
faAAaloo: they did/ they happened to do
Note: the root is F-Ain-L and it means doing. faaaloo is an action that is completed that is derived from the root. It means: the action of doing is happened by the subject (third person plural).
Fahishatan: an abomination/ ugly word or deed
Note: the root is F-Ha-SH and it means: the ugly word or deed or any word or deed that has exceeded the border of decency and appropriateness. The term is often used related to sexual acts, but it is not limited to it. FAHISHATAN is an ugly word or deed including sexually.
Aw: or
Thalamoo: they transgressed against/ they misplaced right and wrong.
Note: the root is THa-L-M and it means to put something out of place in the concrete and transgressing or misplacing right and wrong in the abstract. The concrete word THALAM is related to the root and means Darkness which is one of the causes of misplacing things. THALAMOO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of trasngressing against the object (anfusahum= themselves) or misplacing right and wrong regarding the object happened by the subject (third person plural).

Note: the root N-F-S and it means to breath. ANFUSA is a noun that is derived from this root and it means Selves of. HUM means them or they.
Thakaroo: the mentioned and remembered
Note: The root is TH-K-R and it means mention and remember, at the same time. The concrete word is something running on the tongue as if speaking it. Another concrete word is male or the male organ. The relationship between the two is not very clear and they can be different words that share the sound but have different root. It could be that the male is considered the active organ and that memory is an active process, but that is only a theory. THAKAROO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of mentioning and remembering happened by the subject (third person plural).
Allaha: Allah
Faistaghfaroo: therefore they sought protective cover/ they sought forgiveness
Note: FA means therefore or so or then, ISTAGHFAROO is derived from the root GH-F-R and it means the helmet of the soldier in the battle. This one of the concrete words and the word is therefore used to mean protective covering in many fashions as in protecting the person from the error or protecting the person from the consequence of error and that is forgiveness. ISTAGHFAROO is an action that is completed. It means: the action of seeking and possibly achieving protective cover happened by the subject (third person plural).
Lithunoobihim: to their sins/ for their sins
Note: li means to or for. THUNOOBIHIM is derived from the root th-n-b and it means tail of an animal. However, it also has the meaning of sin or crime or error. Thunoobi means sins or crimes of. HIM means them.
Waman: and who?!
Yaghfiru: forgives/ protectively covers
Note: the root GH-F-R and it means the helmet of the soldier in the battle. This one of the concrete words and the word is therefore used to mean protective covering in many fashions as in protecting the person from the error or protecting the person from the consequence of error and that is forgiveness. YAGHFIRU is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of protective covering or forgiveness is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person singular pointing to God). “Protective cover” means: protection from falling into error as well as protecting against the consequence of error.
Alththunooba: the sins
the root th-n-b and it means tail of an animal. However, it also has the meaning of sin or crime or error. ALthThunoobA means the sins or the crimes.

Walam: and not
Yusirroo: they insist/ they hold tightly
Note: the root is Sad-R-R and it means to put things together and tighten on them. In concrete it is used for the sac in which one puts things and then tightens it. It is also used for cold, because a person puts himself together and tightens it and for a sound or a whistle because it is a product of putting the mouth together and tightening it. YUSIRROO is an action that is being completed or will be completed. It means: the action of holding tightly is happening or will be happening by the subject (third person plural). Here, holding tightly carries the meaning of insisting.
